Chapter 49 – Did Avery go to Gotham?

“Hmm?”

David stared in the direction where the figure disappeared for a few seconds, feeling suspicious.

How could there be someone in the town with abilities similar to Clark’s speed?

“The direction that guy came from… Avery’s house?”

His face rapidly changed several times as he suddenly thought of a bizarre possibility: Clark’s abilities might not have temporarily disappeared.

“Let’s go, Clark.”

David pulled the puzzled Clark quickly to the front of Avery’s house.

The door was shattered, as if hit by a rocket, with fragments scattered all over the grass in front of the house.

The sound of a woman crying in sorrow could be heard from inside Avery’s house.

“Not good!”

Clark worriedly rushed into the house.

Their geography teacher, Reagan, was sitting on the sofa with a cut on his forehead, looking dazed. Avery’s mother, Beth, was crying in sadness, leaning against her husband as if she were a mother who had lost her child, heartbroken.

Seeing that the two of them were fine, Clark breathed a sigh of relief.

“Aunt Beth, what happened?”

David frowned as he glanced at the shattered wooden door in front of him and followed inside, asking.

“Avery has changed since he came back yesterday.”

Aunt Beth’s eyes turned red.

“Just now, he wanted to run away from home. His father tried to stop him, but he was thrown away by him…”

With a casual swing, Avery sent Reagan flying over the dining table, flying seven or eight meters before crashing onto the sofa. If it weren’t for the sofa, his bones might have been broken and he would have been seriously injured and hospitalized.

After that, their son Avery kicked the door open and, amidst a burst of explosions, a gust of wind swept through, and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared.

Reagan was filled with confusion. How could his son have such great strength?

“Run away from home? Where did he go?”

Clark quickly asked from behind.

They needed to find him before Avery, who was obviously emotionally unstable, did something irreversible.

“Wait, Clark.”

After listening to Beth’s account, David became more certain of his guess and pulled him back to the door.

“Don’t you think Aunt Beth’s description sounds familiar?”

He furrowed his brows, pondering in a low voice.

“A defense that is unaffected by being struck by lightning, immense strength, and incredibly fast speed that the human eye can’t catch. Avery might not have obtained his abilities through mutation.”

“Not through mutation?”

Clark didn’t understand what his brother meant, even though these abilities were quite astonishing.

But the previous Greg also fit this description.

“Just now, a figure left the town in this direction at several times the speed of sound.”

David’s gaze flickered as he solemnly spoke of what he had just seen.

“It’s probably not just a coincidence.”

He paused and asked in return.

“You lost your abilities, and Avery coincidentally gained abilities equal to yours?”

“What?”

Clark was stunned, his mouth wide open.

“You… you mean, my abilities were transferred to Avery by lightning and meteorites?”

Before David could nod, he hurriedly ran back to the couple and asked where Avery had gone.

“Aunt Beth, Avery is in a dangerous state right now. Where did he go?”

“I don’t know.”

Beth wiped away her tears, frightened by her son’s sudden change, her voice choked.

“Avery said he felt uncomfortable here and wanted to go to a paradise for the powerful. There, there are no laws to restrain them, and many numb people are waiting to be conquered…”

“It’s not far from here because he will come back. When he comes back, he will come to this town and erase everything that makes him uncomfortable.”

She tearfully recounted the words her son left before leaving.

“When that time comes, he can do whatever he wants. There is nothing in the world that can stop him.”

“Do whatever he wants?”

David sneered.

The previous Greg believed that he had initiated evolution and considered himself the Superman ahead of anyone else in the world. Now, Avery, who had obtained the abilities of a Kryptonian, wanted to become a Superman of his own country?

“A paradise for the powerful? No laws to restrain them?”

A series of words confused Clark, and for a moment, he couldn’t figure out where it was.

Where was it? Some war-torn place?

David turned his head and looked into the distance, where the figure with incredible speed had disappeared, his gaze deep.

“The answer to the question is simple – Gotham.”

“Gotham?”

Clark’s face changed.

Not far from Metropolis, where the law is just a decoration for the powerful, where else could it be besides that place known for its simple folk?

After briefly comforting the Reagan couple, David and Clark quickly returned home and recounted what they had seen and their speculations.

“Are you saying that Clark’s abilities were transferred to Avery by lightning?”

Jonathan, their father, furrowed his brows in astonishment after hearing the news brought back by his two sons.

If that were true, then it wouldn’t be a good thing for his own son to lose his abilities.

“Gotham, that place…”

Martha felt uneasy.

“If Avery learns bad things after running away from home and uses these abilities for evil.”

She and Jonathan knew how powerful Clark was and had been patiently teaching their son, urging him not to misuse his talents. Normally, he would only use this power to help the farm save a few people’s labor.

If Avery suddenly gained that kind of power, he might not be able to maintain his mentality, especially after going to Gotham, a place rumored to be rampant with crime and one of the highest crime rates in the United States.”That’s the problem.”

David nodded.

“Avery clearly doesn’t plan to use this power to mend fences or till the land.

He has quite ambitious plans for his future.”

A cold sneer flashed in his eyes.

Avery said he would come back, and when he did, he would erase everything that made him uncomfortable, and nothing could stop him then.

It was hard not to suspect that the guy might have discovered that the meteorite was his weakness.

“We must bring Avery back before he uses my power to cause massive destruction.”

Clark’s face was grim, his fists clenched.

He couldn’t bear the thought of someone getting hurt or even dying because of his power.

“But…”

Martha started to speak, then stopped. How could they stop him?

“I might need to take a long trip, Mom and Dad.”

After a few seconds of contemplation, David looked up at Jonathan and Martha, coughed twice, and said seriously.

“I’ll help Clark clean up this mess and bring Avery back.”

“David?”

Hearing David’s unusual tone, Clark turned to his brother, his eyes slightly widened, vaguely guessing what he was planning to do.

But wouldn’t revealing his strange appearance now make their parents worry more?

【Surprise from Clark +1.5, Worry +1.6…】

In fact, it wasn’t just about helping Clark retrieve his power, David’s eyes flickered.

Since Clark lost his power, the emotional points he provided had shrunk by more than twenty times.

“The main source of emotional points, a gold mine, has disappeared, and the speed of power fusion has dropped more than ten times.”

If the previous fusion speed was like a bicycle, now it was like a turtle crawling, he just got a new power.

“But, what are you going to do, son?”

It was a good thing that his son wasn’t afraid of danger, but Jonathan looked puzzled.

“Use the meteorite.”

David pulled out a thumb-sized meteorite from his pocket.

“Don’t…”

Seeing the deadly meteorite, Clark instinctively raised his hands to block the light, but the meteorite didn’t emit a green light, only a faint green glow that couldn’t be seen during the day.

Feeling no weakness or discomfort, he touched himself in surprise.

“I… I’m okay?”

Clark didn’t react as he should have, which didn’t surprise David.

Because on the way back, he had tested this piece of Kryptonite on Clark without his knowledge.

“Avery not only has a physique similar to Clark’s.

He should also have the same weakness.”

“But… but it’s still very dangerous.”

Martha couldn’t agree to let her younger son take such a risk.

She was already worried about her younger son going to Gotham, a place riddled with criminals, let alone going to subdue Avery, who now had superpowers and super speed.

“Don’t rush, son.”

Jonathan patted his younger son on the shoulder and advised.

“Let’s sit down and think of a solution.”

It was too reckless for his younger son to go to Gotham with just a piece of meteorite.

“In fact, Mom and Dad… you don’t need to worry about me.”

Facing his parents’ worried eyes, David opened his mouth.
