Chapter 23 – No one can stop me

Hoo hoo!

In the afternoon, the weather was gloomy, and a cold wind blew low across the streets of the town.

Mother Martha went shopping, and Clark and David followed to help carry things.

There were signs of rain, and people in the town hurriedly walked by.

Just as they put two large buckets of discounted laundry detergent in the car, Clark’s vision blurred, and the surrounding scenery turned into a black and white silent film. The people walking on the street were no longer residents, but skeletons.

A woman carrying a vegetable basket casually passed by, and Clark was at a loss and made a dodging gesture.

David knew that his uncontrollable super vision had been activated again. “Control your abilities with your heart, don’t be afraid or resist.”

Zod had just arrived on Earth and was exposed to sunlight. In less than a minute, he adapted to the sudden emergence of various abilities, which was related to him being a well-trained elite warrior.

But as Kryptonians, Zod didn’t have more organs or legs than Superman, and his potential was not as good as his.

“Think about why you could always manipulate it during physical education class.”

Looking at Clark’s distressed face, David suspected that it was related to Clark’s mental state.

He resisted his emerging abilities, which made him appear like an outsider, reminding him from time to time that he was an alien, sometimes effective and sometimes not.

“I…”

Clark was about to speak when suddenly, in his line of sight, another strange skeleton appeared, catching his attention.

While others appeared as black and white figures in his X-ray vision, that skeleton was emitting a bright green fluorescence, just like…

“A meteorite?”

This instantly reminded Clark of something that had caused him a lot of trouble.

For some reason, although those meteorites came to Earth with him, they were his nemesis, making him weak when he was near them.

“What’s wrong, Clark? Did something happen again?”

Martha walked out of the supermarket and saw that her eldest son was not right, so she suggested going home immediately. “Let’s go home.”

“No, I’m fine.”

Seeing the green skeleton walk into a small shop on the street, Clark shook his head, took a deep breath, and tried to control himself. After two seconds, his abilities actually turned off.

“David is right. As long as I don’t resist it, I can do it!”

He felt happy in his heart, but when he looked at his calm younger brother, he felt a sense of frustration.

Clearly, the talent was his, but his younger brother understood the tricks better than him.

David was not surprised by this.

“It is well known that Superman is a somewhat idealistic creature.”

Seeing signs that his eldest son could easily control his newly emerged abilities, Martha was not worried about any problems that might arise.

“Mom, didn’t you say you wanted to go to the antique shop?”

Clark had just seen the green skeleton walk into the antique shop on the street.

“We need to get our bedroom lamp fixed, so I asked Aunt Catherine to help.”

After walking a few steps, Martha led her two sons into the run-down antique shop on the street.

Ding ling.

The door opened, and the doorbell rang.

There were various items displayed, porcelain and horn products were arranged in glass cabinets, oil paintings, antique clocks, and embroidered pictures hung on the walls.

There were also some small African tribal-style statues placed casually in the corners…

It was called an antique shop.

David looked around and doubted if there were any real antiques inside.

He couldn’t say for sure about a shop that had fallen to repairing household appliances.

“Most of them are from last week.”

“Kent… I mean Martha, how have you been lately?”

Catherine walked out from behind the store, her eyes showing nervousness, and a formal smile on her face.

“How’s business?”

Martha didn’t suspect anything, after all, the person in front of her was the Catherine she was familiar with. Her eyes, nose, and even the slightest wrinkle at the corner of her eyes were exactly the same.

“It’s not bad.”

“I’m here to pick up the lamp.” After chatting for a while, Martha smiled and got to the point.

“The lamp?”

Catherine was puzzled.

Clark secretly wanted to activate that special perspective again.

He tried to control the muscles at the corners of his eyes and finally succeeded after seven or eight seconds.

Behind the counter, there was a fleshy skeleton emitting a fluorescent light from the meteorite.

“But… why is it so short?”

The skeleton was different from what he had just seen. It was a young woman a moment ago, but now her figure was hunched.

“Could there be two?”

He remembered that Catherine’s daughter, Tina, also attended the high school in town, but they were not in the same class.

“The redwood lamp that Jonathan broke.”

After Martha explained, ‘Catherine’ seemed to finally remember and turned to go inside to get it.

“What’s that smell?”

David sniffed and a faint smell entered his nose.

Clark also smelled it but didn’t notice anything.

In addition to super hearing and vision, Kryptonians’ other senses were far superior to ordinary people. He might not have awakened to them yet.

Martha, as an ordinary person, didn’t notice anything either.

“Sorry, Martha, let me check. The lamp hasn’t been fixed yet. Can you come back next week?”

‘Catherine’ came out with an apologetic expression.

“Of course.”

Martha, who was always easygoing, smiled lightly.

She turned around to leave with her two sons, but suddenly, a stack of money was exposed under a cabinet near the stairs.

She bent down to pick it up.

“What’s this?”

“Thank you, Martha. I’m such a fool.”

Seeing the stack of money, Catherine quickly put it away, her tone slightly stiff.

“A customer paid in cash, and I’ve been looking for it all day. It turns out it was here.”

“You’re welcome. This is not a small amount of money, Catherine. You should keep it safe.”

Martha’s eyes flashed with unease and she smiled.

After giving some instructions, she quickly left with her two sons.

Outside the antique shop, walking on the street, Martha whispered.”The stack of money was bound with a band from the town’s savings and loan.”

The town bank had just been robbed, and a stack of ten thousand dollars from the bank appeared in Catherine’s shop. It was hard not to make the connection.

“Catherine said it was money paid by a customer, but we all know her antique shop hasn’t been open for a long time…”

“I don’t think Catherine’s family can afford to throw around ten thousand dollars.”

David had just noticed the stack of money when ‘Catherine’ looked panicked.

“The person who robbed the money is likely connected to her.”

“I saw it too.”

Clark said, looking back at the antique shop, and saw a surprising scene.

Inside the antique shop, a hunched figure seemed to stretch and straighten, transforming into the shape he had seen earlier.

More importantly, inside a standing cabinet in the shop, a female body was placed.

Aged, hunched, the heart no longer beating, the blood already coagulated.

“I think what we saw was not Aunt Catherine.” He opened his mouth.

“Then who is it?” Martha was puzzled.

“I don’t know, but…” Clark shared his discovery.

The person he had known for many years might be dead, her body just behind her.

Martha was somewhat shocked and decided to go home first to discuss with her husband Jonathan how to deal with this matter.

Even if their eldest son had abilities beyond ordinary people, she didn’t want him to get involved in this matter easily.

Closing the door, Tina’s flesh flowed like putty, returning to its original form.

Thinking of Martha’s unnatural expression when she discovered the money, she hung up a ‘temporarily closed’ sign with a cold voice echoing in the shop.

“No one can stop me from finding happiness!”
