Chapter 55 – You can push him in

Looking at the eyes of this black cat, He Gu felt waves of unease in his heart.

This was the second black cat he had encountered today!

According to the rules, he had to leave immediately upon seeing a black cat.

Without any hesitation, He Gu turned and left the area.

Building 17 was located to the southwest of Building 4. Walking east from here, it was about six or seven hundred meters to the internal storage area where He Gu had worked the night shift last night.

Before long, He Gu arrived at the internal storage area.

Coming from this direction, the first thing He Gu saw was the entrance to the internal storage area.

It was a large iron gate, and all the trucks entering and exiting had to pass through here.

Arriving at the gate, He Gu noticed that it was directly facing the warehouse where he was on duty, Warehouse 44, with a distance of less than 50 meters between the two.

On the inside of the iron gate, there was a lush locust tree, under which there was a wooden table and a rocking chair.

At this moment, a middle-aged security guard in uniform was standing next to the table.

Seeing this, He Gu found it a bit strange and asked, “Uncle, there’s a chair here, why don’t you sit?”

The security guard looked He Gu up and down, expressionless, and said, “Day shift security guards must stand. The chair is for the night shift.”

He Gu nodded thoughtfully at the words and didn’t say anything more.

Entering the internal storage area through the gate, He Gu wandered around the entrance to Warehouse 44 where he was on duty.

At this time, there were four people in green work clothes inside Warehouse 44, busy using forklifts to send wooden crates into two loading bays, which were then slowly conveyed into the passage by a conveyor belt.

At this moment, the walkie-talkie in He Gu’s pocket suddenly crackled, “Crackle… 444, are you awake?”

It was the supervisor’s voice.

He Gu immediately took out the walkie-talkie and responded, “Supervisor, I’m here.”

Soon, the supervisor’s voice came through the walkie-talkie again, “444, come to the No. 4 cafeteria for dinner. There’s a new colleague for you to meet.”

Upon hearing this, He Gu couldn’t help feeling a bit strange.

The supervisor was even managing his dinner?

Or was it simply to introduce the new colleague?

It was already getting dark at this time, and it was indeed not early.

He Gu picked up the walkie-talkie and replied, “Okay, I’ll be right there.”

With that, He Gu quickly walked in the direction of the No. 4 cafeteria.

Twenty minutes later, He Gu arrived at the entrance of the No. 4 cafeteria.

The supervisor was already waiting there.

“Go get your food. There’s a new colleague reporting today, and as a senior, you should treat the new person to a meal.”

After saying that, the supervisor added, “Order a few more dishes, don’t be stingy. The factory has a special meal subsidy, and you can pay with your work card.”

He Gu nodded and didn’t say much, turning to enter the cafeteria to get his food.

There weren’t many people dining at this time, so He Gu hardly had to wait in line.

Thinking about how 441 had ordered three meals at once yesterday, He Gu realized that he should order an extra meal for the supervisor.

After all, this was a world of strange tales, and He Gu had no intention of saving money for retirement. He really didn’t mind spending money.

Soon, He Gu had ordered three full meals, each with seven dishes.

At this moment, the cafeteria worker who was serving the food suddenly asked He Gu, “Are these for the new person and the supervisor?”

He Gu nodded, puzzled, and asked, “How did you know?”

The cafeteria worker didn’t answer, but instead gave a mysterious smile and said, “Not adding any medicine?”

He Gu’s heart tightened, and he asked tentatively, “What’s the purpose of adding medicine?”

The cafeteria worker hesitated for a moment at the question, then immediately glanced at He Gu’s work card after seeing the number on it.

After seeing He Gu’s number, the cafeteria worker’s face changed slightly, and he quickly waved his hand, saying, “It’s nothing, go on, don’t block others.”

He Gu gave him a strange look, shook his head, and carried his tray to find a seat.

With three large plates of food, He Gu made two trips to move all the food to his seat.

He hadn’t waited long in his seat when he saw the supervisor walking in with a young man.

He Gu glanced at the number on his work card: 445.

After the supervisor and 445 sat down, the supervisor pointed at He Gu and said, “This is your colleague, 444.”

Then, the supervisor said to He Gu, “This is 445, who just reported today and will be on the night shift with us tonight.”

He Gu nodded to acknowledge 445, who just gave him a silent glance and didn’t say anything.

At this point, He Gu asked the supervisor, “Supervisor, is 441 not on the night shift with us tonight?”

The supervisor paused slightly and said expressionlessly, “He committed a serious violation last night and has been dealt with.”

He Gu instantly remembered seeing someone in a white hazmat suit carrying a body out of Building 4 when he went out in the evening, and couldn’t help feeling a bit uneasy. “What do you mean by ‘dealt with’?”

The supervisor lowered his head to eat, “You don’t need to ask so much. Anyway, you won’t be on duty with him again in the future.”

He Gu frowned slightly and didn’t say anything more, lowering his head to eat his food.

At this moment, the supervisor suddenly said to He Gu, “You didn’t add a medicine patch for him?”

He Gu shook his head and asked, “Is there a rule about adding a medicine patch for new employees?”

The supervisor fell silent for a moment, and just as he was about to say something, his gaze suddenly fell on the collar of He Gu’s clothes.

He Gu instinctively looked down and saw a stain on his collar that he didn’t know when it had gotten there, as if it was… cumin powder?

It was probably from when he had eaten skewers of beef on the street earlier.

The supervisor looked carefully for a moment, and then his face darkened, “Did you eat somewhere else today?”

He Gu was taken aback, “Um, I had a few skewers of beef in the living area.”

The supervisor’s expression became even more unpleasant, and he said coldly, “It’s best not to eat outside in the future, especially meat.”

After a few seconds, the supervisor said slowly, “Apart from in the cafeteria, you never know what kind of meat you’re eating.”Upon hearing this sentence, He Gu’s heart skipped a beat, and he felt unwell all over.

For the next ten minutes or so, no one at the dining table spoke again; the three of them ate their own meals in silence.

Soon, the three of them finished the food on their plates one after another.

The supervisor stood up and said, “Let’s go, back to work.”

Without a word, He Gu and the new arrival, 445, followed the supervisor towards the inner warehouse area.

Upon arrival, He Gu consciously entered Warehouse 44, while the supervisor took 445 to another warehouse.

The number of boxes stacked inside Warehouse 44 was clearly less than the previous night.

He Gu sat at the entrance, turning his head to look in the direction of the main gate of the inner warehouse area.

At the gate, on the rocking chair that He Gu had seen during the day, now sat a bald security guard, facing He Gu, leisurely swaying in the chair.

Seeing this scene, He Gu discreetly withdrew his gaze and smacked his lips thoughtfully.

Just then, the supervisor suddenly came back in.

“There are two things I need to tell you.”

As soon as he entered, the supervisor got straight to the point: “First, don’t forget to take your medicine when it’s time at night.”

“Second, 445 is in Warehouse 45 next to you. It’s his first night on the job, so if you hear any abnormal noises from next door, go have a look.”

“If Warehouse 45 is close to the delivery entrance… you can push him in.”
