Chapter 15 – How many is this?

Clearly, the one in the room just now wasn’t Pan Mudan, but the Red Chain Snake that had transformed into human form.

After catching my breath for a moment, I prepared to bring Pan Mudan back.

Moreover, this house was no longer safe to stay in.

Who knows when that monster might come out again!

Just as I was about to leave, Pan Mudan pushed the door open and entered.

Seeing me standing there, Pan Mudan was overjoyed and quickly stepped forward, hugging me tightly: “Little Yuan, I’m so glad you’re okay!”

I asked, “Sis, what happened?”

Pan Mudan replied, “I went out to relieve myself, and when I came back, I saw a huge snake coiled around the window from the outside, so I didn’t dare to go in. I had no choice but to call out for you from outside!”

I questioned, “Why did you stop calling after a while?”

Pan Mudan said, “I thought about going out to find help, but in the dead of night, I knocked on several doors and there was no response!”

I recalled for a moment and said, “That big rooster, wasn’t it you who brought it here?”

Pan Mudan asked in surprise, “What big rooster?”

I explained, “Just now, I was bewitched by the big snake and almost died! At the critical moment, a rooster crowed in the yard, and that scared the snake away!”

“Is that so!”

Pan Mudan seemed to understand and said, “I’ve heard that snakes are afraid of roosters. It looks like I’ll have to keep chickens at home from now on.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell Pan Mudan everything that had just happened.

For one thing, I didn’t want to scare her.

And for another, I was somewhat embarrassed.

However, the attentive Pan Mudan still picked up on something and asked, “Little Yuan, you just said you were bewitched by the big snake, what do you mean?”

After thinking for a moment, I said, “It means I had some hallucinations!”

“And now?”

Pan Mudan waved her hand in front of me, showing three fingers, and asked, “How many is this?”

“It’s better now!”

I laughed and said, “That’s three!”

“How many?”

Pan Mudan asked again.

“Three, right!”

I was confused: “Isn’t it?”

“It’s over, it’s over!”

Pan Mudan started hopping anxiously: “Little Yuan, are you poisoned? Did the snake bite you?”

Isn’t it three?

A shock went through my heart, and I grabbed Pan Mudan’s hand, feeling her fingers.

With that touch, my heart sank.

Pan Mudan clearly only held up two fingers, but I saw three!

“Quick, take off your clothes, let me see if there are any wounds!”

Pan Mudan gave me a quick once-over.

Actually, there wasn’t much for me to take off.

So very quickly, Pan Mudan noticed something amiss and pointed at my chest, saying, “What’s this red spot here?”

“Red spot?”

“Isn’t it a black spot?”

I looked down and was stunned on the spot.

The Ghost Qi that was moving towards my heart had disappeared!

In its place was a red spot the size of a fingernail!

“What’s going on?”

“Could it be that the snake demon was really afraid of the Ghost Qi, and it accidentally helped me absorb it?”

“But what’s with this red spot now?”

While I was still dazed, Pan Mudan had already brought out a bunch of anti-inflammatory medicine.

But medicine is a poison in itself!

Pan Mudan didn’t dare let me take it recklessly and stood under the light, carefully reading the instructions.

“Sis, stop looking!”

I said, “This house isn’t safe, shall we go to the front?”

Pan Mudan asked, “Is the front safe?”

I pointed to the snake hole by the wall and said, “At least it’s safer than here!”

“That makes sense!”

Pan Mudan said, “Then let’s hurry over!”

The front room had only a bamboo mat on the bed.

When I thought about going back to the main house to get another mat, Pan Mudan, frightened, grabbed me and said, “One mat will do, let’s make do. It’ll be dawn soon anyway!”

After turning off the light, we lay down fully clothed.

I didn’t know if Pan Mudan had fallen asleep, but I tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

My mind was filled with various questions.

“Why has the Ghost Qi disappeared?”

“What is this red spot?”

“Is my life still in danger?”

As my mind was in turmoil, Pan Mudan suddenly spoke up: “Haven’t slept yet?”

“Mhm!”

I said, “How come you’re not asleep either?”

Pan Mudan turned to face me and said softly, “I’m worried you’re poisoned, how could I dare to sleep?”

After a pause, she asked again, “By the way, Little Yuan, how did that snake… bewitch you?”

“This…”

I hesitated, unsure whether to tell her the truth.

Pan Mudan continued on her own, “I’ve heard that there’s a Red Chain Snake in the village that can take on human form. It couldn’t have been that one, could it?”

Seeing that I still didn’t answer, Pan Mudan urged, “Speak up, Little Yuan! If it really was a snake demon, I can’t dare to stay here any longer!”

I sighed and said, “Sis Mudan, your guess… is right!”

“Ah?”

In the darkness, Pan Mudan moved closer to me in fear and asked, “Who did that snake demon… transform into?”

I honestly replied, “You!”

Pan Mudan curiously asked, “And then?”

I said, “The snake demon asked me if I liked you, I said I did, and then she sat on top of me…”

“You…”

Pan Mudan fell silent, obviously embarrassed.

I quickly explained, “Sis, don’t get me wrong, I was bewitched by the snake demon!”

Pan Mudan asked, “So, do you like me?”

“Ah?”

I stammered, “Of course… I do! In the whole Wang Family Village, I only get along with you, Sis Mudan!”

“Me too!”

Pan Mudan said, “It’s just a pity that after you went to university, you rarely came back!”

I tried to reach out my hand and gently wrapped it around her, saying, “But I’m back now, aren’t I?”

“Mhm!”

Pan Mudan moved even closer into my arms and whispered in my ear, “Little Yuan, don’t tell anyone about what happened today!”

I asked, “Which incident are you referring to?”

Pan Mudan said, “From last night, all the way until now!”

“Okay!”

I didn’t ask why, I just agreed right away.

At that moment, Pan Mudan added, “And what’s about to happen.”

“Huh?”

Before I could react, Pan Mudan kissed me…

“Little Yuan, you were infected with demonic energy, your life was at stake!”

“Now, I’ll help you draw out the demonic energy…”

I don’t know how much time passed.

I was awakened by the sunlight.

When I opened my eyes, I was shocked!

I found myself lying naked in a wasteland!

Around me was a freshly planted cornfield, with only inch-long sprouts showing due to the short time.

“What’s going on?”

I stood up and looked around.

I found my clothes scattered not far away and hurried over to get dressed.

After putting on my clothes, I shook my groggy head vigorously.

While walking towards the main road, I recalled last night’s events.

I took a few steps and nearly tripped.

Upon closer inspection, there was a new grave in front of me.

Rural graves are often quite casual.

Like the one in front of me.

From a distance, it was just an inconspicuous little mound.

There was no tombstone.

Only a wooden plank was inserted in the direction north of the grave.

I walked up to the plank and saw a line of words written on it: The Tomb of Pan Mudan.

Seeing these five words, I was startled!

Then, all the events of last night came flooding back to me!
