Chapter 252 – Mist Butterfly

Except for Xun Ye's unnatural expression, everyone was filled with joy.

Kong Delun, while bowing his hands, said with a smile, "Thank you all. This time, The Holy Land has welcomed so many from our human race into the Demon Ancestor's domain. Such an event hasn't happened in a thousand years. It's a sign of great prosperity for our race, a joyous and congratulatory occasion!"

"In The Holy Land, Brother Kong, don't be as modest as you were on the road to The Holy Land. Our opponents are the Demon Barbarians," Zong Wude said with a laugh.

"I do have some items bestowed by my family, but the Comet Corridor is extraordinary. Even The Swallowed Lake Pearl and Treasures of Literature are ineffective there. We must rely on ourselves."

"It's no surprise that a member of the Kong Family would know so much about the Comet Corridor. We still don't know what lies within," Yan Yukong said, feeling somewhat helpless.

Kong Delun spoke, "I don't know much either, but since it's made from a comet, it must be intricately linked to comets."

"There's always been debate about comets. All the Saints should know what comets are, but they wouldn't waste time telling us about them," someone said.

A Presented Scholar next to Kong Delun smiled, "Fang Yun is known as a polymath. He must know something about comets, right?"

Everyone looked at the speaking Presented Scholar, Weng Ming from the Weng Saint Family of Valley Nation, affiliated with the Legalists but leaning towards the Kong Family. He was one of the top contenders for the top Imperial Scholar title this year. He smiled kindly, without any hint of provocation.

"Don't trouble Fang Yun, Weng Brother. If someone from the Zhang Heng Family, who oversees the astronomy of ten nations, were here, they might be able to give a rough idea. Fang Yun might not know," Yan Yukong said.

"Zhang Heng Family is also in Jing Kingdom, and Fang Yun is from Jing Kingdom. He probably knows more than us. Let's discuss strategies and speak freely," Weng Ming said with a smile.

Everyone was puzzled. Valley Nation and Jing Kingdom were covertly competing. One Nation was allied with the barbarian lord, and the other at war with him. But Weng Ming didn't seem to be troubling Fang Yun, nor did he seem well-intentioned.

Fang Yun looked at Weng Ming, who had a typical Valley Nation appearance, slightly dark skin, nothing unusual.

After pondering for a moment, Fang Yun said, "Since Weng Brother has asked, I will answer. As far as I know, a comet is actually a large ball of ice and snow, containing rocks, metals, dust, and… unknown poisonous gases. Comets can be simply divided into the comet nucleus and the comet tail. The comet nucleus, when influenced by the sun or other forces, emits dust, ice, snow, and gases, forming a very thin tail. This tail appears vast, stretching billions of miles, but is actually thinner than the air we breathe. It's visible only because it's illuminated by sunlight. What I'm describing is a normal comet; the Comet Corridor should have similarities but also differences."

Fang Yun didn't delve too deeply into comets, as it was unwise to casually mention things like methane and highly toxic cyanides.

"Ah? How do you know such details? I've read over ten thousand books and never came across such detailed descriptions," Weng Ming exclaimed in surprise.

"Fang Yun. Is what you're saying true?"

Kong Delun nodded, "Elders often talk about comets, and what Fang Yun said is very similar. The main body of a comet is indeed mostly broken ice."

"Fang Yun knows both astronomy and geography, truly a polymath of both ancient and modern times," Weng Ming praised without hesitation.

"It seems Brother Fang also supports the idea of 'objects in the sky'. Truly a broad-minded and enlightened man," Ma Xiong couldn't help but praise.

Fang Yun didn't want to get drawn into a discussion on natural philosophy and asked, "Brother Kong, as a disciple of the Kong Family, can you tell us more about the Comet Corridor?"

Kong Delun smiled bitterly, "You all know what the elders are like. The elders of our Kong Family are the same, constantly preaching great truths in my ear. But every time I ask about secrets or specific details, they change the subject. I knew about the Demon Ancestor's domain a long time ago, but what exactly the Comet Corridor is, the elders never say. I've asked a few times, and they either stay silent or say that knowing in advance would go against the original intention of the Demon Ancestor creating the Comet Corridor, and that I'll understand once I see it."

Yan Yukong, as if finding a kindred spirit, said with a pained expression, "My mentor is the same, saying there are too many secrets in the world, even he can't know everything, and that I should seek knowledge and explore origins on my own."

The disciples of Semi-Saint families immediately sympathized, complaining bitterly. Fang Yun chuckled quietly to himself.

After a while, Kong Delun said, "Fang Yun, I heard from Xun Ye that you were injured by The Tyrant. How's your injury? I found a life-extending fruit in The Holy Land that can extend life by about ten years, to help with your injury." He was about to take out the fruit.

Fang Yun replied, "Thank you for your concern, Brother Kong. I've abandoned my wheelchair and can walk normally. The life-extending fruit is not necessary."

"Alright, if you need it, remember to tell me," Kong Delun said.

Weng Ming beside him asked, "Fang Yun, we came here after hearing you were here. Did you have a conflict with the Wolf Savage Saint?"

"It's nothing," Fang Yun didn't want to elaborate.

But Weng Ming pressed on, "We've asked the star Demon Barbarians here. They say someone questioned your identity as a Moon Guardian, wanting the Moon God's relic for verification. When did you become a Moon Guardian?" Weng Ming's voice lowered on his last words, his eyes filled with curiosity and doubt, even a hint of pity, as if he had already concluded Fang Yun's claim to be a Moon Guardian was false.

The smiles on everyone's faces faded.

Li Fanming's expression darkened, "A gentleman should be careful with his words. Weng Brother, your tongue is a bit too long."

Weng Ming chuckled dryly, "Fanming Brother, you're too serious. I was just asking. But Brother Fang is being too presumptuous. How can one simply impersonate a Moon Guardian? Never mind, I admit my mistake. I should be more cautious with my words." He looked away after speaking.

Many showed displeasure.

Fang Yun glanced at Weng Ming, then turned his attention to the stone gate of the Moon God's Temple.

Unlike human customs, the stone gate bore no inscription of the Moon God's Temple. In front of the temple was a small square, where more and more Demon Barbarians gathered over time, while the number of humans remained unchanged.

Soon, Fang Yun noticed several powerful Demon Barbarians arriving, some heading towards the Wolf Savage Saint, others staying far away, not greeting the Saint.

The Demon Barbarians who had previously fought alongside against the Demon Emperor's Golden Guards came one after another. Among them were the bear Xiong Cang and a certain ape demon general, noticeable for a streak of white hair on his head.

Xiong Cang hurried to the Wolf Savage Saint, whispering something about Fang Yun, who listened quietly.

Fang Yun sighed softly, realizing that the Demon Barbarians would eventually learn about his encounter with the Mist Butterfly.

Many Demon Barbarians pointed and whispered about Fang Yun and the others. These Presented Scholars were elites from various nations, with several listed on the Demon Realm's Imperial Scholar hunting rankings.

Half a Time later, a member of the Demon Clan ran up, handing a jade stone to the ape demon king.

The ape demon king was about to enter the Moon God's Temple when the Wolf Savage Saint suddenly said, "Hold, my lord."

"Oh?" The ape demon king stopped and looked at the Wolf Savage Saint.

The Wolf Savage Saint turned to Fang Yun, "Fang Yun, surrender the Mist Butterfly, and I will spare you today. How about it?"

"The Mist Butterfly? How does he have the Mist Butterfly?"

Many Demon Barbarians in the crowd were visibly shocked at Fang Yun, their eyes filled with greed.

Hearing the Wolf Savage Saint's brazen demand, Fang Yun retorted unapologetically, "You want the Mist Butterfly? Fine, exchange it for your life! You don't even have the courage to demand it. How did I never realize you were this foolish! Surrender it to you? You're just a Wolf Savage. Are you a Great Scholar who understands 'The Spring and Autumn Annals,' or a master of literature who can interpret 'The Analects'? Are you a benevolent ruler of ancient times or a Semi-Saint of this era? Do you even deserve to use the word 'surrender'? An uncivilized beast!"

"How dare you insult me!" the Wolf Savage Saint raged.

"The 'Shuowen Jiezi' states: 'Insult means shame.' Write down the words 'propriety, righteousness, integrity, and honor' for me to see! Alas, you cannot write them; you don't even understand them. You don't deserve to be insulted. Don't think too highly of yourself! Do you know what 'shameless' means? 'Unscrupulous and shameless,' does that ring a bell? It's about you!" Fang Yun sharply rebuked with his scholarly eloquence.

The Wolf Savage Saint's face turned beet red with anger. Many Demon Barbarians had to rely on human classics translated into their language to understand human strength. The Saint could understand Fang Yun's words, but he couldn't verbally spar with someone like Fang Yun, a scholar; not even a million Demon Barbarians could.

All Demon Barbarians quickly shut their mouths, not expecting this refined-looking Fang Yun to be so sharp-tongued. Demon Barbarians were least willing to provoke such humans, as there had been instances of Great Scholars verbally assaulting them, causing many to bleed and single-handedly repelling entire armies with words.

The Wolf Savage Saint clenched his fists, biting his tongue. As a Saint, being scolded by a human without daring to retort would make him a laughingstock in the Demon Realm.

The star Demon Barbarians secretly laughed at the Wolf Savage Saint's misfortune, with none coming to his aid.

The Presented Scholars around Fang Yun also smiled, finding the situation gratifying.

After enjoying the moment, the ape demon king asked, "Your Highness, are we waiting any longer?"

The Wolf Savage Saint rolled his eyes. If the speaker weren't a demon king, he surely would have retorted.

The ape demon king announced, "Then I will open the Moon God's Temple and use the Moon Phase Divine Stone to verify the authenticity of the Moon God Stone Sculpture, and then let it discern whether Fang Yun is indeed a Moon Guardian."

The Wolf Savage Saint glared at Fang Yun, gritting his teeth, "Go ahead, say a few more words. Soon you won't be able to speak ever again!"

Many human Presented Scholars looked worried. Xun Ye, who had been quiet, suddenly lifted his head, scanning the Demon Clan, then turned his gaze to Fang Yun, his eyes flickering.

The doors of the Moon God's Temple opened with a thunderous rumble, scattering dust everywhere. The ape demon king slowly entered.

Fang Yun followed closely. Upon entering the cave, he saw a giant stone sculpture, about the height of two people, deep inside. The green stone sculpture was a vertical disc, with a tree carved on it, its branches supporting a round moon, resembling the legendary Moon Tree of the Demon Realm.

For some reason, Fang Yun felt a sense of familiarity at first sight of the sculpture.

The Wolf Savage Saint glared fiercely at Fang Yun, then raised his head high, lifting the Moon Phase Divine Stone with a smile, "I, Wolf Li, the Saint of the Wolf Savage clan, to prevent humans from impersonating Moon Guardians, will use the Moon Phase Divine Stone to test the relics left by the Moon God, seeking the Moon God's discernment."

As soon as he finished speaking, the Moon Phase Divine Stone shone brightly and slowly flew towards the stone sculpture.
