Chapter 137

With only two days left until the wedding, He Ju had stopped going out for work. He spent his days in the apartment rushing design drafts and in the evenings, he would return home to prepare for the wedding with his parents, buying all sorts of things. He was incredibly busy.

At nine in the morning, He Ju woke up in his apartment, which was about to be sold, so most of his belongings had already been moved out.

After a quick wash, He Ju sat down in front of his drawing board to continue working on his drafts. He wanted to get a few more done so that he and Si Hua could enjoy more sweet time together as newlyweds.

Busy until noon, He Ju was awakened by the ringing of his phone.

It was a video call from Si Hua, which he immediately answered.

The face he longed for day and night reappeared before his eyes, and at that moment, his yearning for Si Hua peaked.

Si Hua was smiling joyfully at him, and without waiting for He Ju to speak, she turned the camera to show a freshly baked chocolate cake.

Her cheerful voice rang out, “Husband, look, this is a new dessert I’ve made, a chocolate cake. Doesn’t it look good? Do you want to eat it? Should I have someone send it over to you?”

Si Hua’s barrage of questions warmed He Ju’s heart, “Isn’t chocolate cake your favorite? Are you willing to let me have it?”

The camera turned back to Si Hua, “Of course, you’re my husband. As a wife, I’m naturally willing to let my husband eat anything.”

He Ju teased, “Why do I feel like there’s another meaning in your words?”

Si Hua was alone at home and didn’t hide her longing for He Ju, saying directly, “Yes, I miss you so much. It’s been so hard not seeing you these past few days.”

He Ju smiled slightly, “Then… shall I come to see you tonight?”

Si Hua missed He Ju terribly, but she remembered her father’s words that it was more auspicious to meet on the wedding day, so she declined.

She wasn’t superstitious, but for a smoother marriage with He Ju, she was willing to believe.

Hearing Si Hua’s reasoning, He Ju’s smile deepened, “Silly girl, then I’ll keep you company after the wedding banquet.”

Si Hua happily nodded, “It’s already noon, have you eaten?”

He Ju turned the camera to show his workspace and said, “Just finished working, was about to make some noodles.”

Si Hua immediately felt sorry for him, “Should I have someone send you something?”

He Ju replied, “Si Hua, baby, you know how far you are from me. By the time it arrives, I’d be starving. I’ll just whip up something quick.”

Si Hua then said, “Then I won’t keep you. Go and eat, we’ll talk tonight.”

He Ju nodded, “As you command, wife!”

Just as He Ju was about to hang up, Si Hua said, “Wait…”

He Ju asked, “What’s up?”

Si Hua said, “Our house is about to be renovated, right? The villa is huge, four stories high, with front and back gardens. I’m thinking of hiring a few servants and a chef. And when you start your company, you can’t always drive yourself to work, so I’ll also look for a driver for you. What do you think?”

He Ju smiled, “Sure, you’re my lady. You take care of the house.”

Si Hua was pleased, “Great.”

After hanging up, He Ju went to the kitchen. He intended to cook noodles, but found the kitchen empty, and the fridge was bare. He rummaged through the cabinets and found a pack of instant noodles, thinking of eating something simple while planning the honeymoon.

He wanted to surprise Si Hua, who had once said she wished to visit Yunnan and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain again with someone she loved.

After such a long time, He Ju thought he must now be that person Si Hua liked.

Their wedding banquet was scheduled for early winter, and he heard it wouldn’t snow in the south. They could go for two months and return for the New Year.

He Ju watched travel videos while eating instant noodles. The heating was on, so it wasn’t too cold indoors, and he was just in a short-sleeved shirt. Outside, however, was a different story. The temperature had dropped significantly, and it was the rainy season, making it impossible to go out without a down jacket.

Before he finished his noodles, the doorbell rang.

He Ju thought it was Bai Yan, as his brother-in-law had been visiting often lately, but when he opened the door, the smile on his face froze, and he instinctively wanted to close it.

Despite wearing a sweater and high boots, Su Ran’s face was red from the cold. Seeing He Ju’s unwelcoming expression, her heart ached, but she still put her hands against the door, “I didn’t mean to disturb you, I just came to bring you something.”

He Ju had no intention of letting Su Ran in, “Haven’t you decided to go abroad? Why haven’t you left?”

Su Ran gave a bitter smile, “My parents left City A yesterday, and I… I just wanted to give you a gift before your wedding banquet, then I’ll leave.”

Su Ran hurriedly explained, “I will leave, but please give me a few more days…”

How curious.

The things he once desperately wanted but couldn’t have were now being delivered to him eagerly?

He Ju quietly observed Su Ran, not speaking for a moment.

Su Ran quickly put down her backpack and crouched in front of He Ju. He noticed her hands were red and stiff from the cold, trembling as she struggled with the zipper.

He Ju asked, “How long have you been freezing down there?”

Su Ran’s movements stiffened, and tears fell without warning. She didn’t dare to look up, just sobbed, “Not long, I just got here…”

Just got here? She had been there since dawn, standing outside for too long, her body chilled through, even walking slowly.

Su Ran wiped her tears and continued to fumble for the gift with trembling hands. Unable to watch any longer, He Ju pulled her up and brought her inside. Only when he closed the door did he feel the warmth return.

Su Ran looked like a frightened little rabbit, nervously explaining, “I… I didn’t mean to be so slow, it’s just that my hands are numb, so I’m a bit slow. I didn’t intend to barge into your home.”

He Ju found her explanation amusing. The old Su Ran was willful and never cared about these things. She had changed a lot.

He Ju said, “Alright, what is it?”

Su Ran then took out a bouquet of hand-held flowers from her backpack, her eyes red as she looked at He Ju, “I made this by hand… Could you let Sister Si Hua carry it when she gets married?”

Seeing the luxurious and exquisite bouquet, He Ju was stunned for a moment.

The bouquet symbolized “passing on happiness.” Was Su Ran changing her ways?

Su Ran looked pitiful, anxious and uneasy as she watched He Ju, but he remained unmoved, simply saying, “Sorry, my wife’s bouquet was personally made by her bestie. I think I can’t make this decision for my wife.”

He Ju paused for two seconds, “Moreover, I don’t want her to carry a bouquet you made. Even if you mean well, I’m worried she might mind.”
