Vol.2 – Chapter 9 – Borrow fire

Glutton City.

In the city, there is a magnificent one-ranked Sword Pavilion built against the mountain, covering a vast area and exuding a majestic aura. However, the living quarters of the owner of the Sword Pavilion are extremely simple, just a wooden house in front of the mountain.

In front of the mountain, a middle-aged man with a weathered face stood with his hands behind his back. He had a head of strong and straight hair, a well-defined face, and deep eyes. He looked like a stone statue, emanating an unwavering aura.

This is the owner of the Sword Pavilion, Xu Kunwu, the renowned master swordsmith who is respected by everyone in Glutton City.

But at this moment, there was a faint worry in his eyes.

“Dad, did you call for me?” A young man in a sturdy outfit hurriedly arrived. He bore some resemblance to the man in front of him and appeared to be around thirty years old. He had a simple and honest look, with bright eyes.

He was Xu Kunwu’s only son, Xu Sui.

“Yes.” Xu Kunwu turned around and said, “Spread the word and hide all the valuable materials, rare treasures, finished and unfinished swords in the Sword Pavilion. No need to hide them, just transport them to another place in the city for temporary storage. Just make sure not to lose them. After a while, bring them back.”

“This…” Xu Sui was very surprised. “What’s the purpose of this? We still have dozens of swords to finish in the Sword Pavilion…”

“Stop all work for now and resume when the situation calms down. There’s nothing urgent for you to do.” Xu Kunwu said decisively.

“But why?” Xu Sui was clearly puzzled. “It feels like we’re guarding against thieves…”

Xu Kunwu looked at him and said solemnly, “Consider it guarding against thieves.”

“Huh?” Xu Sui was shocked again. “Which thief would dare to steal from our one-ranked Sword Pavilion? Are they tired of living?”

“Stealing would be considered fortunate. I’m afraid she would come and snatch it…” Xu Kunwu’s eyes flickered, clearly harboring some unpleasant memories.

“What exactly happened?” Xu Sui was completely confused and had no idea what was going on. How could his usually steady father suddenly act as if a great disaster was about to strike?

“Do you remember twenty years ago when I forged the Jingyang Sword?” Xu Kunwu said.

“Of course I remember. It was one of the famous swords forged by Dad.” Xu Sui mentioned it, his eyes filled with pride for his father. “It was also the key battle that propelled Father to become one of the top swordsmiths in the world.”

“At that time, the pure Yang and extremely strong Pure Yang Iron was extremely difficult to refine. I tried dozens of divine fires but couldn’t melt it. I almost failed.” Xu Kunwu reminisced. “Later, after many twists and turns, I finally obtained a Samadhi True Fire, which allowed me to refine the material and forge the Jingyang Sword.”

“Samadhi True Fire? Isn’t that exclusive to the royal family…”

When the Jingyang Sword was born, Xu Sui was still young and didn’t understand the details. Now, hearing his father talk about it, he couldn’t help but be surprised.

Immortal technique, Samadhi True Fire.

It was the strongest flame in the world, the spirit of ten thousand fires. Only those with the divine fire constitution in the Five Elements Spirit Body had the possibility to cultivate this immortal technique. However, that divine fire constitution was the ancestral bloodline of the Xia family of the Yu Dynasty.

In this world where gods and demons rose, it was obvious that the one who could become an emperor couldn’t be an ordinary person. Even if the Supreme Sovereign of the Nine Five was not an absolute powerhouse, they must at least have the qualifications to be recognized by the heavens and the earth.

Before the establishment of the Yu Dynasty, the Xia family was one of the three ancient cultivation families in the cultivation world.

A genius cultivator could establish a sect, but not a family. Because a sect could choose and cultivate talents, but a family couldn’t guarantee that every generation would have outstanding talents. Unless, this family inherited some kind of extraordinary bloodline.

The three ancient cultivation families were the Xia family, which inherited the divine fire constitution, the Ji family, which inherited the Xuan Yuan Eye, and the Jiang family, which inherited the immortal spirit body.

Not everyone in these three families possessed the extraordinary constitution, but at least one or even several would be born in each generation.

As long as they grew up normally, such a physique could rival the current geniuses and become the backbone of the family. Only if there were such geniuses in every generation could an ancient family continue to exist.

Later, during the chaotic times, the Xia family rose up and declared themselves emperors, establishing the Yu Dynasty as the royal family. Even today, they still follow the ancestral tradition that only those who inherit the divine fire constitution are qualified to become the crown prince, in order to ensure that future emperors must be powerful enough.

Otherwise, if the ruler of a country could be easily killed, the stability of the country would be impossible to discuss.

Only the Xia family had the divine fire constitution, and only those with the divine fire constitution could cultivate the Samadhi True Fire. This was well known. However, as a member of the royal family, it was unlikely that they would help the father who served as the offering in Glutton City.

“It’s not only the royal family that possesses the Samadhi True Fire in this world.” Xu Kunwu shook his head and said, “I obtained it from elsewhere at that time, which allowed me to forge the Jingyang Sword. However… sigh, it also resulted in a favor owed.”

“Now…” He looked towards the distant sky. “That person is coming.”

“Borrowing fire?”Chu Liang was taken aback.

“That’s right, he once asked me for a favor,” Di Nvfeng said with a triumphant smile.

Chu Liang was genuinely unaware of this. In his mind, if Di Nvfeng had any connections, they would undoubtedly be enemies.

Could she actually have positive connections?

That was truly shocking.

And it was with Master Kunwu…

The three greatest swordsmiths in the world today were Chen Buyan of Zhongshan Sword Hut, Baili Tong of the Imperial City, and Xu Kunwu, the first-class servant of Glutton City.

Chen, the inheritor of the ancient sword-making techniques of Zhongshan Sword Hut, valued the spirit of the sword rather than the material. He cultivated the sword spirit with a calm mind, unpredictable and unorthodox, but whenever he achieved something, it was always a famous sword passed down through generations.

Most ancient swordsmiths forged no more than ten swords in their lifetime, so despite their high status, they could not be commissioned. In terms of skill alone, Master Chen was recognized as the best in the world.

Master Baili served the royal family and enjoyed great honor. He only forged swords for the royal family and court officials.

Master Kunwu, on the other hand, was a first-class servant of Glutton City. Although his status was still high, he was the only one among the three who catered to the market. Without a doubt, he had to filter his customers through price.

And that price… was astronomically high.

It was so expensive that Chu Liang didn’t even dare to think about it.

So when Di Nvfeng mentioned that name, Chu Liang’s first reaction was, how could she dare? Was she planning to sell off the land of Silver Sword Peak? That probably wouldn’t be enough, they would also have to work as tour guides at the entrance for a hundred years.

Was a favor really worth that much?

“Actually, I didn’t have any relationship with him at the beginning. I just wanted to annoy some old guys, so I helped him out. Who knew he would become a famous swordsmith in the world,” Di Nvfeng scratched her head and laughed, “If it weren’t for the thought of getting you a good sword that day, I would have almost forgotten about it.”

“But since you have this connection, Master, why did you borrow the Ancient Sword of Xiaoyun? Why not just ask Master Kunwu to get us a good sword?” Chu Liang wondered.

In his mind, Master Kunwu must have many finished flying swords. Choosing the best one for himself would be much better than buying one at a high price from the Sword Hall of Shu Mountain. If that was the case, why did they have to bring the Ancient Sword of Xiaoyun and ask him to forge a replica?

“That would be too easy,” Di Nvfeng smirked, “We’ve finally caught a toad, we have to squeeze out everything it’s got…”
