Chapter 94 – Lin Jingzhi’s Devotion

The delivery rider looked very ordinary, the kind of person you’d see one moment and forget the next, blending into the crowd.

He wore a hat, a yellow vest, and black sneakers, looking no different from any other delivery rider you’d see in daily life. Completely unremarkable.

Who would have thought this guy was actually a killer?

As he thanked Lin Jingzhi and bent down to take the delivery box from her hands, a sharp dagger suddenly slipped out from his right sleeve, aiming straight for Lin Jingzhi’s heart.

He intended to kill with one strike.

He seemed very confident in his attack, so much so that a slight smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth as the dagger thrust forward.

But this small movement was keenly caught by Ye Qiu.

A delivery rider who had just fallen down—normally, that would be an unlucky event. Why would he show a smug expression?

This was too unusual.

Ye Qiu’s gaze fell on the rider’s hand and saw the dagger.

“Watch out!”

Ye Qiu shouted, using all his strength to pull back, causing the wheelchair to slide backward, taking Lin Jingzhi out of the path of the deadly strike.

However, after missing the first strike, the killer took two steps forward and aimed another stab at Lin Jingzhi’s throat.

He wouldn’t stop until his target was dead.

In that critical moment, Ye Qiu reacted swiftly.

He extended his right arm to block the dagger.

“Shhh!”

The dagger pierced into his skin.

Instantly, Ye Qiu’s right arm was covered in blood.

The killer hadn’t expected anyone to block his dagger this way, and his eyes narrowed slightly in surprise.

Taking advantage of this, Ye Qiu stepped forward, shielding Lin Jingzhi behind him, and threw a punch.

The killer crouched down, dodging Ye Qiu’s punch, then did several backflips and with a splash, jumped into the lake below the bridge, disappearing without a trace.

Ye Qiu didn’t chase after him.

He was worried that this was a ploy to lure him away, and that there might be other killers waiting to attack Lin Jingzhi.

However, Ye Qiu didn’t intend to let the killer get away so easily.

After the killer jumped into the lake, Ye Qiu quickly used a tracking talisman, a wisp of black smoke appeared and darted into the lake.

Only then did Lin Jingzhi notice the blood on Ye Qiu’s right arm and asked in a panic, “Ye Qiu, are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” Ye Qiu said with a smile. “That killer was quite cunning, disguising himself as a delivery rider. He almost succeeded.”

“Forget about him for now. I’m taking you to the hospital,” Lin Jingzhi said urgently.

“Why go to the hospital? I’m a doctor myself.”

Ye Qiu glanced at his arm, blood flowing down, staining his entire hand red.

“No, you’re seriously injured. I’m taking you to the hospital,” Lin Jingzhi said, pulling out her phone to call for help.

“Really, it’s nothing, just a minor wound. I can heal it myself.” Ye Qiu said, drawing a hemostatic talisman on the spot.

Soon, the bleeding stopped.

“See? I told you it’s nothing,” Ye Qiu said with a smile.

Lin Jingzhi looked closely and saw that Ye Qiu’s arm had indeed stopped bleeding. She suddenly put on a stern face and said, “Let’s go home.”

Back at the villa.

Lin Jingzhi took out a medical kit and pointed to the sofa, commanding, “Sit down.”

After Ye Qiu sat down, Lin Jingzhi gently wiped the blood from his hand. Upon closer inspection, she found that even the wound was gone, and she was full of surprise, “It’s healed so quickly?”

“Of course, I told you it’s nothing.”

Lin Jingzhi then remembered that Ye Qiu knew Maoshan Talismans and breathed a sigh of relief, gratefully saying, “Ye Qiu, thank you.”

“There’s no need for thanks between us,” Ye Qiu said with concern, “Sister Lin, were you scared just now?”

“I was scared when I saw your hand covered in blood,” Lin Jingzhi said, her eyes fixed on Ye Qiu. “Why did you save me just now?”

Ye Qiu smiled, “I’m a man. It’s a man’s duty to protect a woman.”

“Is that all?” Lin Jingzhi didn’t believe him.

Ye Qiu then spoke the truth, “Sister Lin, you are someone I… respect very much. I couldn’t bear to see you hurt.”

He originally wanted to say that she was someone he liked very much, but he was afraid that saying so would upset Lin Jingzhi, so he said she was someone he respected very much.

Lin Jingzhi looked deeply at Ye Qiu, as if trying to see through him.

Ye Qiu quickly changed the subject, “Sister Lin, that rider’s movements were very skilled. He was definitely a professional killer.”

“Yes,” Lin Jingzhi nodded slightly, she thought so too.

“Do you know who wants to kill you?”

Lin Jingzhi shook her head, “I don’t know.”

“Leave this matter to me,” Ye Qiu said. “Ninety-Thousand-Year-Old has entrusted Jiangzhou to me. I have thousands of brothers under my command now. It shouldn’t be difficult to find a killer.”

“No need to investigate,” Lin Jingzhi said.

Ye Qiu was taken aback, “Why?”

“Over the years, I’ve made quite a few enemies, but I know them well. They don’t have the guts to kill me. The ones who do have the guts are only two.”

“Sister Lin, are you talking about Qian Yanru?”

“Qian Yanru is one. She has always blamed me for Qian Dong’s death and wants to kill me,” Lin Jingzhi continued. “But Xiao Qingdi is more likely because I crippled his leg.”

This was a mortal enemy. If Ye Qiu were in his place, he would seek revenge too.

“Anyway, no matter who it is, you need to be more careful from now on and hire more bodyguards,” Ye Qiu reminded.

“Don’t worry, even if they want to kill me, it won’t be easy. Besides, you’ll always protect me, right?”

Lin Jingzhi batted her eyes, looking very charming.

“Yes,” Ye Qiu nodded.

Lin Jingzhi continued, “I’m tired. Carry me upstairs to rest!”

“Okay.”

Ye Qiu carried Lin Jingzhi to her room. Just as he was about to leave after placing her on the bed, Lin Jingzhi grabbed his sleeve.

“Sister Lin, what are you doing?” Ye Qiu asked, puzzled.

“You like me, don’t you?” Lin Jingzhi asked.

Ye Qiu hesitated for a moment and then nodded slightly.

“Then swear to always treat me well.”

“Sister Lin, what’s wrong?”

“Swear!”

Ye Qiu didn’t know what Lin Jingzhi meant, so he said, “I swear, if the sky falls, I will shoulder it for you; if the earth sinks, I will protect you with my life. No matter how the world changes, I will always stay by your side.”

“That’s more like it.” Lin Jingzhi suddenly hooked her arm around Ye Qiu’s neck and whispered in his ear, “Do you want to exercise?”
