Chapter 113 – Major case

“Why are you two here?” Ye Qiu asked, his face full of confusion.

The two unexpected visitors who walked in were none other than Gu Feng and the woman he had encountered the night he went looking for the assassin.

Gu Feng smiled and said, “Brother Ye Qiu, I’ve come specifically to find you this time.”

“Looking for me?” Ye Qiu was even more puzzled.

Gu Feng explained, “It’s like this, we’ve run into some trouble and would like to ask for your help.”

“I’m afraid you’ve got the wrong person. I’m just a doctor; I can’t help you.” Ye Qiu refused without a second thought.

Gu Feng’s background was unclear, and Ye Qiu didn’t want to get too involved.

The woman said, “Dr. Ye, you’re so skilled. If you can’t help us, I’m afraid no one can.”

Hearing this, Ye Qiu frowned slightly.

It seemed they had come prepared.

Could it be that they had investigated him secretly?

Gu Feng noticed Ye Qiu’s thoughts and quickly said, “Brother Ye Qiu, the reason we found you is that someone recommended you to us, saying you could definitely help.”

“Who recommended me?”

“The Dragon King!”

“Oh?” A hint of surprise flashed in Ye Qiu’s eyes.

Gu Feng continued, “The Dragon King said if you can’t help us, then no one can.”

Since it was the Dragon King’s recommendation, it couldn’t be easily refused.

“Tell me, what’s the matter?” Ye Qiu asked.

Gu Feng’s smile faded as he said, “I’m investigating a bizarre murder case. We’ve hit a snag and can’t determine the cause of death of the victim. We need your help with the autopsy to find out the cause of death.”

“That’s it?” Ye Qiu thought it was something major.

Gu Feng smiled bitterly, “Because we don’t know the cause of death, the case has been at a standstill. I’m getting desperate.”

Ye Qiu thought for a moment and said, “Alright, I’ll help you with the autopsy after I get off work.”

“Brother Ye Qiu, don’t wait until after work. Come with me now. If we can’t find the cause of death soon, my superiors will give me a hard time.”

“But I still have to work.”

“I’ll help you get leave from the hospital. Just come with me now, I’m begging you,” Gu Feng pleaded.

The woman added, “Dr. Ye, this matter is of great importance. An entire building, five households, twelve people, all dead. The captain is under immense pressure.”

“How many did you say? Twelve people dead?” Ye Qiu was shocked.

“Yes,” the woman said, “Five households, twelve people, including the elderly and children, all dead.”

Ye Qiu’s expression turned serious.

He realized this wasn’t an ordinary case but a major one, no wonder Gu Feng was so anxious.

“Where are the bodies?” Ye Qiu asked.

“I’ve stored them all in a cold storage,” Gu Feng replied.

“Lead the way!”

Seeing Ye Qiu agree to help, Gu Feng was overjoyed and immediately took Ye Qiu out of the hospital.

On the way, Ye Qiu sent a message to Bai Bing to ask for leave. He also learned that the woman who came with Gu Feng was named Yang Qi, Gu Feng’s subordinate, both belonging to a mysterious department.

Twenty minutes later.

The car stopped.

Gu Feng led Ye Qiu to a cold storage.

Ye Qiu noticed several guards outside the cold storage, all of them strong and sharp-eyed, clearly not ordinary people.

“Open the door,” Gu Feng ordered.

The two guards quickly opened the door.

Instantly, a blast of cold air hit them, and the surrounding temperature dropped sharply.

“Brother Ye Qiu, please follow me,” Gu Feng said, stepping into the cold storage first.

Ye Qiu and Yang Qi followed closely behind.

As soon as they entered the cold storage, Ye Qiu saw twelve bodies laid out on the ground, ranging from old to young. None of the bodies were clothed, indicating they had already undergone autopsies.

“What did the forensic doctors say after examining them?” Ye Qiu asked.

Gu Feng replied, “Three forensic doctors examined them, but none found anything. They couldn’t determine the cause of death. I had no choice but to seek help from the Dragon King, who recommended you. Brother Ye Qiu, you must help me!”

“I’ll take a look first. I can’t guarantee I’ll find the cause of death,” Ye Qiu said.

Gu Feng said, “Brother Ye Qiu, whether you find the cause of death or not, I owe you a favor.”

“You’re too kind!” Ye Qiu put on a mask and gloves and began examining the twelve bodies.

The victims ranged from under ten years old to nearly eighty.

Ye Qiu spent half an hour carefully examining all the bodies.

“How is it?” Gu Feng looked at Ye Qiu expectantly.

“None of the bodies have external injuries, so the cause of death isn’t apparent,” Ye Qiu said. “Did the forensic doctors use professional medical instruments?”

“They used all available medical instruments but found nothing,” Gu Feng said solemnly. “Could it be some kind of dark magic?”

Ye Qiu shook his head, “It’s not dark magic.”

“How can you be so sure?” Gu Feng was puzzled.

“If it were dark magic, there would be traces of dark energy, which I don’t sense,” Ye Qiu said, glancing at the bodies. “I suspect they were poisoned.”

“That’s impossible,” Gu Feng countered. “If it were poison, the three forensic doctors would have found it.”

Yang Qi added, “Typically, a person poisoned to death would show signs like slightly purple or black lips, similar discoloration on other parts of the body, bulging eyes, clenched fists, and curled limbs. But these twelve bodies show none of those symptoms.”

“You know about autopsies too?” Ye Qiu looked at Yang Qi in surprise.

Yang Qi smiled, “After handling many cases, you naturally learn a few things.”

“I see,” Ye Qiu said. “Although I haven’t found the cause of death yet, I have a strong intuition that they were poisoned.”

Gu Feng, though skeptical, couldn’t help but ask, “If they were poisoned, what kind of poison could it be?”

“It must be a rare and unknown poison,” Ye Qiu said, continuing to examine the bodies.

This time, he gave it his all.

After forty-five minutes, Ye Qiu finally stopped and said, “I’m fairly certain they were poisoned.”

“Why don’t the bodies show any signs of poisoning?” Gu Feng asked.

Ye Qiu said, “Move all the bodies outside and expose them to sunlight.”

“For what?” Gu Feng was puzzled.

Ye Qiu said, “Once they’re exposed to sunlight, the symptoms will appear.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

Although Gu Feng was doubtful, he called the guards to move all twelve bodies outside.

In less than fifteen minutes, a strange scene unfolded.
