Chapter 99 – Dealings with the Ghost

The clear sound of footsteps came from outside the body bag.

Gradually approaching Yang Jian’s location.

After a long period of eerie silence, the sudden appearance of footsteps meant something, and Yang Jian was well aware of it.

Although he wanted to go out and take a look to confirm the presence of ghosts outside, the risk was too great, so Yang Jian didn’t dare to move.

He wasn’t afraid of the headless ghost shadow, nor the mysterious and eerie sick ghosts in the village. The only thing he feared was the fierce ghost that could easily kill a ghost tamer. The existence of that ghost had always been a mystery. No one had seen it because anyone who saw it was probably already dead.

No one had encountered it either.

Because those who encountered it were also dead.

The only way to understand that ghost was through the deaths of three ghost tamers.

“I am alone now, considered isolated. According to my previous speculation, the balance in the village has been disrupted by me. That fierce ghost should be hunting ghost tamers everywhere. Once found, no one can survive.”

“Are the footsteps outside from that ghost searching for people?”

Yang Jian’s heart skipped a beat, and he couldn’t help but feel nervous.

The body bag he was lying in was placed in a wasteland covered in weeds.

It was not easy to be noticed in this environment if one didn’t look carefully.

But the ghost might not rely on vision to find people, but rather some kind of perception or condition.

Yang Jian couldn’t be sure that he wouldn’t be found by that fierce ghost. Lying here was already a gamble, and the stakes were his own life.

The footsteps approached again.

He could even judge that the ghost was less than three meters away from him.

Almost right beside him.

“These footsteps don’t sound like coughing, so it’s not a sick ghost. In that case, it’s either that fierce ghost or the headless ghost shadow that I released. But I think the chance of that fierce ghost is greater.”

Yang Jian thought to himself, not making a sound, but preparing to use the Ghost Domain at any time.

Now was not the time to worry about the revival of fierce ghosts.

“Step, step~!”

The footsteps passed by his side and stopped in the direction he was facing.

The direction he was facing was the opening of the body bag.

To breathe, Yang Jian had left some gaps for air circulation.

“Could I have been discovered?”

Sweat dripped from Yang Jian’s palm, and he almost held his breath.

If he was discovered at this moment, the chances of dying here were not less than ninety percent, at least eighty percent.

Whether it was the fierce ghost in front of him or using the Ghost Domain to resist, the result would be the same. He didn’t have the ability to confine a ghost of this level.

One minute, two minutes, three minutes…

Yang Jian only knew that a considerable amount of time had passed, but he didn’t know the exact time. At this moment, he didn’t even dare to make a sound by turning on his phone. Who knew if such a subtle action would immediately expose his whereabouts.

Finally, fifteen minutes had passed.

Yang Jian, inside the body bag, suddenly heard the sound of the footsteps leaving.

Yes, the footsteps sounded again and gradually walked towards the direction of the village.

The ghost was leaving.

Hearing the footsteps gradually fade away, Yang Jian finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“I succeeded. I managed to avoid this search. I can almost conclude that as long as I leave this body bag, that ghost will almost certainly not be able to find me. I will be safe.”

Thinking of this, he felt much more at ease.

This was crucial.

If even the body bag wasn’t safe, then there was no safe place here.

But Yang Jian didn’t appear very happy because the crisis was only temporarily relieved. If he didn’t come up with a solution, he would still be sitting and waiting for death.

And upon careful consideration, there were only two paths ahead.

Wait for the headless ghost to cause trouble and see if he could restore the village to its previous state.

The second was to take the initiative.

“Let’s wait a little longer.” Yang Jian restrained his impulse and decided to give it a day to wait for changes.

If the headless ghost’s wandering in the village had any effect, a day should be enough time. Otherwise, the headless ghost’s actions would be considered a failure, and it would disappear mysteriously like other ghost tamers.

Although the waiting time was long, it passed quickly.

Unconsciously.

A day had already passed for Yang Jian inside the body bag.

That was what his phone displayed.

Since the appearance of the footsteps, there had been no other movements around. However, during this time, his body had undergone abnormal changes. He could no longer control the Ghost Eye, no matter what he did.

Was it because the revival of fierce ghosts intensified?

Or was he being threatened invisibly, causing the Ghost Eye to open involuntarily, just like when he saw the passing ghost in Jiang Yan’s apartment.

Regardless, this waiting could not continue.

The deadlock had to be broken.

At noon on the second day.

Yang Jian cautiously opened the body bag and took a secret glance outside.

It was pitch black.

He couldn’t see anything at all.

The horror continued to shroud the village.

“Use the Ghost Eye.” Yang Jian took a deep breath and extended his hand.

On the back of his hand was a crimson eye.

Through the Ghost Eye, he surveyed his surroundings.

The vision transmitted through the eye was a world shrouded in red light.

But it was not difficult to see that the village still existed.

Only the funeral hall where the coffins were placed was still missing.

And at the doorsteps of other houses, Yang Jian saw motionless villagers standing there, their expressions numb and eerie, like corpses.

But in the next moment.

These motionless villagers suddenly turned their heads and looked towards the hand outside the body bag.

Each pair of eyes was empty, without eyeballs, as if they were filled with darkness, giving off a chilling fear.

“Damn it!”

Yang Jian couldn’t help but curse and quickly withdrew his hand into the body bag.

Curiosity killed the cat.

This village was indeed terrifying, and he was certain that if he were to step out, he would definitely be surrounded and killed by this group of ghosts. There would be no chance to escape.

The villagers were still relatively normal before.

Since the disruption of the previous balance, this village had become even more frightening.

Surviving in such dire straits was not a solution.

He had to rely on this last resort.

Yang Jian reached into his pocket and touched it. He took out the most reluctant-to-use piece of human skin paper.

Then he turned on the screen of his phone and illuminated it.

There were words written on the human skin paper.

“As someone who has only been in Huanggang Village for three days, I am already at a dead end. Under desperate circumstances, I once again took out that piece of human skin paper. Perhaps it can tell me the answer to solving the current crisis.”

“But I was disappointed. I didn’t get what I wanted from it.”

“Perhaps I will die here.”

“It, it’s too terrifying.”

Yang Jian’s gaze sharpened. “If I survive, I will make a deal with a ghost.”

The human skin paper changed again.

The previous words disappeared, and new words appeared.

“I think it’s safer to complete the unfinished deal with this human skin paper first. In return, I may be able to control the second ghost in the Huanggang Village incident, which may bring a turning point.”

“Control the second ghost? Wait, this information is different from before. Before, it only showed me the method to control the second ghost, but now, it’s directly controlling the second ghost.” Yang Jian’s eyes narrowed.

Indeed.

This ghostly thing had a trick up its sleeve.

It could help him control the second ghost?

Damn it, why didn’t it say so earlier? If it had, why would he have come here?

No, something’s not right.

Yang Jian remembered the last sentence: “It, it’s too terrifying.”

Was it describing his own feelings or revealing the fear of the human skin paper towards that ghost?

If it was the latter.

Then.

The human skin paper was also afraid!

“So, you’re also afraid of seeing the coffin without shedding tears. If I want to leave here, I can only control the second ghost. You know that my Ghost Eye’s power is not enough to fight the ghosts here.” Yang Jian’s face changed.

As expected, the previous speculation was correct.

This level of ghost had already surpassed his ability to deal with it.

No wonder one ghost tamer died after another.

To survive, the minimum requirement was to control the second ghost.

In simpler terms, he was too weak.

Too weak to survive.

So at this point, the human skin paper compromised. Before, it told him the method of control, but now it was directly offering to help him control the second ghost?

But what was the price? What would happen after the human skin paper obtained a ghost? Could he bear the consequences? Or would he release something even more terrifying with his own hands?

“It doesn’t matter anymore. It doesn’t matter at this point. Even if I make a deal with an evil ghost, I must walk out of here.” Yang Jian gritted his teeth. “Okay, I agree. Let the deal begin.”

The words on the human skin paper gradually disappeared.

Finally, a few large characters appeared: “The deal between me and the human skin paper has begun.”
