Chapter 106 – Bestow Name Variant Slime –

Several days later, on First Quarter Island, at Gem Peak.

Bathed in the morning’s faint light and buffeted by the cold winds aloft, the golden Hatchling Dragon gazed down with drooping eyes, observing the Moondancer Fishfolk slaves scurrying about like ants at the foot of Gem Peak.

Under the lash and angry curses of the selected Moondancer Fishfolk overseers.

The slaves were carving into the mountain, transporting stones, and reinforcing the mine shafts. With the cooperation of the Moondancer Fishfolk and Elemental Slimes, progress was swift. Earth Slimes could pulverize rocks of ordinary hardness, Water Slimes washed away the stone skin and debris, Fire Slimes melted the ironstone, and Wind Slimes blew away the dust to clear the view. It was foreseeable that the gems hidden beneath Gem Peak would soon be unearthed, which greatly pleased Saga.

“If these Elemental Slimes were a bit smarter, there would be no need for Moondancer Fishfolk slaves to mine the ore.”

Saga thought to himself.

Aside from the Mutant Great Slime, ordinary Elemental Slimes had no intelligence to speak of and were utterly incapable of executing commands effectively. Even the Mutant Great Slime possessed only a rudimentary, nascent intelligence, akin to that of the Amber Earth Dragon and the little skeletons.

Turning his head, Saga, perched atop Gem Peak on First Quarter Island, swept his gaze over Waxing Crescent Island and Waning Crescent Island.

“Leaving Thorn Isle to come to Moon Bay, I’ve finally taken over three islands, casting the shadow of my dragon wings over Moon Bay.”

The little Hatchling Dragon slowly exhaled a breath of scorching air, a hint of sentimentality in its eyes.

From the initial chase by the Tremorboar upon arriving at First Quarter Island, to subduing the Shark Tiger of Waxing Crescent Island, eliminating the Gnoll Thin-Tail Clan that sought to enslave a True Dragon, subjugating the Amber Earth Dragon, then defeating the Death Knight and Demon Warlock who followed from Thorn Isle across the sea, and finally dealing with the Tremorboar and taking over Waning Crescent Island—the time was not long, but many events had unfolded.

“When I arrived at Moon Bay, I set a goal for myself, to become the Lord of Moon Bay.”

“Now that goal has been achieved, and there are no longer any voices in Moon Bay daring to defy me.”

“Yet, why do I suddenly feel a slight emptiness?”

Saga gently stroked the keratin layer where his chin would be, pondering inwardly.

Having accomplished the minor goal of conquering Moon Bay, Saga now lacked a new objective, which left him feeling a sense of emptiness. This was not a good sign for someone who had embarked on the path of a Mind Warlock.

“Hmm, time to set some new minor goals.”

Saga lifted his head, looking eastward.

At the edge of his vision, the sky and the sea seemed to merge into one, forming a straight line that spanned the north-south direction.

Saga knew.

In the distant lands beyond his sight, tens of thousands of kilometers away, lay the bustling and vast Yar Continent.

“I’m currently a mid-tier fourth rank. Hmm, I should quickly elevate my strength to the upper echelons, then head to Yar Continent to witness the kingdoms and city-states, the empire’s prosperity as resplendent as the high-hanging sun.”

Moon Bay was just a remote corner.

Saga was certainly not content with ruling here.

This place was merely a transitional stage for his early development.

“However, there are also many other islands around Moon Bay. Before heading to Yar Continent, I need not confine myself to Moon Bay.”

Saga was currently at the fourth rank, still a distance away from the upper seventh rank. Although he was growing rapidly, it wasn’t something that could be achieved in the blink of an eye. During this time, he didn’t plan to stay in Moon Bay, which he had already conquered, as it was too narrow for him. Moreover, this feeling would only intensify as Saga grew stronger.

Rumble!

The ground trembled slightly.

Saga heard the sound of the Amber Earth Dragon’s heavy footsteps.

Focusing his gaze, he saw the Amber Earth Dragon approaching Gem Peak, then its tail, like a battering ram, slammed heavily against the mountain. Amidst the scattering debris and dust, a large crater immediately appeared.

The Mutant Great Slime perched on the Amber Earth Dragon’s forehead transformed into an Earth Slime form.

It seemed to take a deep breath, its body instantly swelling up, and a large amount of debris and dust was sucked into its form. Together, they worked efficiently to carve out the mine shaft, matching the efforts of many Moondancer Fishfolk and ordinary slimes combined.

“Come here.”

Saga’s eyes narrowed slightly, and a calm whisper arose within the mind of the Mutant Great Slime.

After shrinking its head, the Mutant Great Slime transformed into a Wind form and was pulled by a gust of air from the Amber Earth Dragon’s forehead, eventually flying up to the top of Gem Peak and obediently landing beside Saga’s dragon claw.

“Show me how many types of Elemental Energy you can wield.”

Saga was quite interested in this Mutant Great Slime.

Normally, Elemental Slimes could only possess a single elemental control ability, but this one seemed to have all the forms of Elemental Slimes.

Hiss, hiss.

After a low call, the Mutant Slime began its performance.

Crackle, crackle. Electricity generated on its surface, leaping and encircling, it transformed into a Lightning Slime with a body patterned with lightning and a blue-purple hue.

Then the lightning faded.

Flames rose, a red-hot glow like a heated branding iron replaced the blue-purple, and the high temperature caused the surrounding air to distort slightly.

Apart from the four basic Elemental Energies of earth, water, wind, and fire, this Mutant Slime could also use ice crystals and lightning, a total of six Elemental Energies.

“Interesting, the Mutant Slimes recorded in the Dragon’s Legacy can control up to three elements at most, only half of what you can. Such positive mutations are extremely rare among the Elemental Slime population.”

The golden Hatchling Dragon grinned, extending a dragon claw to poke the icy body of the Mutant Great Slime.

“Let me think, if I were to sell you to the Elemental Mages of the Skyrealm Empire, tsk, I could definitely exchange you for a great fortune.”

Saga mused to himself.

The Mutant Slime didn’t understand Saga’s words, but it seemed to sense the malice within them, involuntarily letting out a few weak cries. Simultaneously, its body, over three meters in diameter, shrank as if dehydrated to the size of a fist, trembling in place.

Because the mental link was still maintained.

Saga clearly felt the Mutant Slime’s emotional fluctuations.

Ah, I’m going to be eaten by a dragon.

Better to shrink a little, so it won’t hurt as much when swallowed in one bite. The Mutant Slime thought this way, even flying voluntarily to Saga’s mouth, ready to face death with generosity, to die sooner and be free from suffering.

Saga was amused by its reaction.

Such a rare Mutant Slime, keeping it as a prized collection or a pet would be nice, and turning it into a psychic guard in the future could be considered. As for selling it to an Elemental Mage, indeed it could be done, but in this godforsaken place, where would one find a proper Skyrealm Empire Elemental Mage? Even if there were any, a mage of insufficient rank certainly couldn’t offer what Saga desired, and if the rank was sufficient, they probably wouldn’t trade with a dragon peacefully.

“I’m not hungry right now, so I’ll keep you for now. I’ll eat you later when I’m hungry and there’s no food around.”

Saga pondered, thinking carefully.

A few seconds later, Saga’s voice resonated once more within the mind of the Mutant Slime, saying, “Emergency ration, I’ll give you a name. Hmm, you like to hiss, and you’re a slime.”

“Combining that, from now on, you’ll be called Ilum.”
