Chapter 61 – True form

“What are those things you guys are talking about?”

“I don’t know, but I guess those things will be my nightmare for the next ten years.”

“Ten years? Do you really think you can live until then?”

“What do you mean?”

“What if these monsters don’t just appear in our school… but in the entire Great Xia?”

“Like a zombie outbreak in the movies?”

“Yes, exactly.”

“Forget it, Lin Qiye just said that they only appear in our school. We’ll be safe once we’re rescued.”

“What kind of person is Lin Qiye anyway?”

“…”

The spacious auditorium was now half-filled with students who had been rescued from the second floor. The only passage in and out of the auditorium was guarded by the Axe Team, making it the safest place.

At this moment, the auditorium was filled with crying, comforting, discussing, and arguing voices. Despite the efforts to maintain order, the voices couldn’t be silenced.

An Qingyu sat quietly behind the door, closing his eyes, lost in thought.

Knock, knock, knock!

Three consecutive knocks, two long and one short. The members of the Axe Team behind the door brightened their eyes and quickly moved the obstacles blocking the door.

“It’s Li Yifei coming back.”

An Qingyu opened his eyes and turned to look behind the door.

Li Yifei entered the auditorium panting heavily, looking like he had just finished running 800 meters, drenched in sweat.

“How is it? Have all the students from other places been evacuated?” An Qingyu stood up and asked Li Yifei.

“They’ve all been evacuated. I ran half the school, and I didn’t see any other students except here. Damn, it exhausted me…” Li Yifei sat on a chair, wiping the sweat off his forehead with his hand.

“That’s good.” An Qingyu nodded.

“I have to tell you, when I ran to the playground just now, I heard a loud noise coming from the art building. It sounded like a building collapsed.” Li Yifei remembered something and quickly told An Qingyu.

“Is it that serious?”

“They probably found the monster’s true form and are fighting.” Li Yifei lay back on the chair, sighed heavily. “If I didn’t have to search and rescue, I would have gone over to take a look.”

“It’s better to stay away from a fight between gods and monsters.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

“What’s the name of Lin Qiye’s organization?” An Qingyu seemed to remember something and asked Li Yifei.

“Night Watchman.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Li Yifei covered his mouth, thought for a moment, and then let go. “Forget it, it doesn’t matter if I tell you. After all, everyone here will have their memories erased.”

“Erase memories?”

“Yeah, they have something that can erase people’s memories on a large scale. After all, there are too many people who have seen the monsters this time. If someone leaks it, it will cause trouble.”

“What about you? Do you need it too?”

“I don’t need it.” Li Yifei smirked. He leaned close to An Qingyu’s ear and whispered, “To be honest, after this incident is over, I should be able to join them.”

An Qingyu nodded. “Do you need any conditions to join them?”

“What about you? Do you want to go too? It’s not that easy. They have high standards for recruiting people,” Li Yifei waved his hand. “Either awaken an ability like Lin Qiye, or show them your own value.”

“Have you awakened an ability?”

“No, I showed them my own value.” Li Yifei smiled.

An Qingyu nodded slightly, his gaze calm as a deep pool. “Well, your performance this time was indeed outstanding. If I were them, I would accept you.”

While the two were chatting, knocking sounds came from outside the door again, the sound irregular.

The members of the Axe Team became alert, and Li Yifei stood up, looking solemnly at the door.

“Who is it?”

“It’s me, Lin Qiye.”

Upon hearing the three words “Lin Qiye,” everyone’s eyes lit up, and they immediately felt relieved. They opened the door, and Lin Qiye, carrying a knife on his back, walked slowly inside.

“How is it?” Li Yifei walked up and asked eagerly.

“We succeeded.” Lin Qiye nodded. “We killed the Nandu Snake Demon.”

Li Yifei let out a sigh of relief, patted Lin Qiye’s shoulder with a smile. “Impressive, Qiye! You actually killed it. Now everyone will be saved.”

Upon hearing Li Yifei’s words, the entire auditorium erupted in cheers. These students who had experienced the horrors of the ghost gate were finally about to leave this terrifying school and escape from those man-eating monsters!

The members of the Axe Team also cheered, throwing their axes aside and embracing each other excitedly.

Li Yifei winked at Lin Qiye, then leaned close to his ear and whispered, “Hey, I’ve made a great contribution this time. It shouldn’t be a problem for me to join the Night Watchman, right? I don’t want to be brainwashed…”

Lin Qiye stood there silently. After a while, he spoke calmly, “Perhaps.”

Li Yifei was taken aback.

At that moment, An Qingyu silently took out a pistol from his pocket, aimed the pitch-black muzzle at the back of Li Yifei’s head, and pulled the trigger.

In the astonished eyes of the Axe Team, the trigger was pulled!Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three consecutive gunshots echoed like thunder across the sky, abruptly silencing the surrounding laughter and chatter. The once lively banquet hall fell into a deathly silence once again!

The joy on everyone’s faces froze. They turned their heads stiffly towards the exit, their eyes filled with disbelief.

Li Yifei turned his head in astonishment, only to see An Qingyu calmly holding a gun. From the dark muzzle, a wisp of blue smoke gradually dissipated.

Li Yifei was stunned for a few seconds before he asked in confusion, “An Qingyu? Why did you fire the gun?”

An Qingyu stood there, silent.

It took a while for Li Yifei to react. He slowly reached out and touched the back of his head…

Clatter!

The bullet shell fell to the ground, ringing with a crisp sound.

At the back of his head, three shallow bullet holes were gradually healing. Only a few strands of blood seeped out. Li Yifei wiped it off, leaving no trace.

Li Yifei looked at the few strands of blood on his hand and muttered to himself, “I was shot… why didn’t I die?”

He raised his head to look at Lin Qiye, extending his blood-stained hand in front of Lin Qiye’s eyes.

“Hey, Qiye, look at me, why didn’t I die?” His pupils trembled slightly, “Did I… awaken some power?”

In front of him, Lin Qiye looked at him with a complex expression. After a while, he shook his head slightly.

“You didn’t awaken any power…

You,

are the Nandu Snake Demon.”

Upon hearing this, Li Yifei’s pupils contracted sharply. He staggered back a few steps, shaking his head repeatedly.

“Impossible, what are you talking about? How could I be a snake demon?! I am Li Yifei!”

Lin Qiye shook his head, took a step forward, and forcefully pulled at Li Yifei’s chest!

Rip!

The zipper of the school uniform broke, revealing Li Yifei’s chest. There, a faint gunshot wound lay quietly like a brand.

“You are the Nandu Snake Demon, or rather… a part of the Nandu Snake Demon.

Your leftover skin can deceive others,

but it can’t deceive me.”
