Chapter 41 – Recognizing the master

The strongest rule of the treacherous land: one can only do what befits their status.

As the head of the household, it was only right and proper for the master to dismiss a steward who had behaved improperly!

The steward’s clothes were stripped off by the maid, even his undergarments were removed. Yet, the steward stood there in a daze, as if he had crashed.

The maid continued, and the scene was far too indecent. Su He shifted his body to shield Su Huanian and Green Snake from the view.

The steward had completely crashed, probably for the first time since his creation, no one had ever done such a thing to him. His database was insufficient, and he struggled to cope.

The rain grew heavier, and from a distance came a hoarse voice: “Everyone step back, the lady of the house is here!”

The savior had arrived!

The treacherous land had its own set of rules, and if something went wrong in the middle, it would inevitably be corrected. In this mansion, the only one with a higher status than the master was the lady of the house.

From the title alone, it was clear that the lady of the house’s role was probably like that of the matriarch in the Red Chamber, firmly above the master, ensuring that there was always someone to hold the fort no matter what happened.

But alas! Su He chuckled.

It’s a pity that it’s a lady of the house, not a lord! The king of the backyard should just stay put, the important matters still need the masters to decide!

Before the lady of the house could enter, Su He’s roar had already been heard: “Stop the lady of the house! This place is filthy, such lewd and lowly acts, if the lady’s eyes are sullied, every servant here, one and all, will be expelled from Changyue Mansion immediately!”

Come on! If you dare to correct me, I dare to flip the table!

The noise vanished in an instant, and the entire Changyue Mansion fell silent as a cicada in winter. The lady’s voice was gone, the clamor of the servants rushing over was gone, only the pouring rain and the maid’s hurried panting could be heard.

The scene was too much like Jiuyan Bridge.

The treacherous land had some intelligence, but not much.

It was probably weighing whether losing a steward or a group of servants was more important.

A moment later, a maid with a white umbrella entered, splitting the rain as she walked straight to Su He and said expressionlessly, “Master, the lady of the house says that it is not the steward’s fault, he was forced…”

“I know!” Su He interrupted her: “Does his innocence matter? The reputation of the mansion is what’s important!”

Doing what befits one’s status doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right! As the head of the household, should one care about the steward’s innocence or the face of Changyue Mansion?

The maid crashed for a moment, bowed, and left without further argument.

“Where’s Xiao Si? Why hasn’t he thrown out the disgraceful things from the mansion yet? They’re an eyesore here!”

Xiao Si did not come in; he was going mad in the rain, kowtowing one moment: “The master and mistress have returned.”

Another moment: “Master, you have a daughter now, it’s time to have a son…”

He was the steward’s personal attendant, and with the steward’s mistake, he too was thrown into disarray.

Two unseen servants emerged from the rain, dragging the steward into the rain, seemingly to throw him out of the mansion.

The maid writhing on his body turned into a puff of green smoke and disappeared. The strongest strike had been made, and naturally, it dissipated.

Su He turned and went back into the house, only to see the old dog, whose grey and white fur had somehow regained a bit of its black hue. The steward was too important in the treacherous land, and for a moment when he was obliterated, the stolen existence returned a little.

The old dog was patrolling the four corners of the room, marking his territory with urine. As soon as Su He entered, the room felt as if it was isolated from the outside world.

The old dog had snatched back control of this room from the treacherous land.

Su Huanian looked at Su He and chuckled lightly: “Using the rules themselves is also helping the treacherous land to advance. Once it adapts and evolves new rules, arranging a new steward will probably be even more difficult.”

The treacherous land evolves through repeated failures and exploitation, until its inhabitants, with spiritual intelligence, are no less than ordinary people.

Su He smiled: “Senior sister, rest assured, how could I give it such an opportunity? Besides, obliterating the treacherous land is not the goal, using it to find Young Master Duo is!”

Not only for Elder Qiao, but Su He was also very interested in the immortal body and the Evil-Suppressing Palace mentioned by Young Master Duo.

“Hey! Do you know where the Evil-Suppressing Palace of Changyue Mansion is?” Su He asked the old dog, who was urinating on the ground. The old dog, lifting its leg against the corner of the wall, cocked its head at Su He’s voice, then put down its leg and shivered with a shock.

A look of confusion. It knew nothing.

Confirmed, it’s a dumb dog.

Su He shouted towards the door: “Someone come!”

In the rain, two paper umbrellas floated over, and two maids bowed: “Master!”

A bit lifeless, if their voices were a bit more lively, they would be two charming young maids.

“Notify everyone in the mansion, find someone with good handwriting to write a notice, Changyue Mansion is recruiting a steward! How can such a large mansion go a day without a steward?”

Being a master for a day means taking responsibility for a day, how can he allow chaos in the mansion? The steward doesn’t need you to evolve and arrange, I’ll find one for you!

The two maids trembled rapidly, and after a long while, they bowed: “Yes, master!”

Their tone was unremarkable, their steps in unison. The treacherous land is a whole, and no matter how many servants there are, they are actually all the same thing.

Su He pondered, then looked up and hummed softly, casting a blood curse towards the departing maids.

Blood curse, marking an enemy.

The blood curse is formless and invisible, only Dragon Turtle, who cast the blood curse, can resolve it. Apart from that, there is no other way, not even reincarnation or other Dragon Turtles!

As soon as Su He cast the blood curse, half of Changyue Mansion was enveloped in the aura of the blood curse, servants, maids, even trees and beasts.

“What did you do?” Green Snake looked around, her animal instincts telling her that Su He must have done something, but no matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t see it.

“Nothing much, just marked them.” Su He said with a smile.

At this moment, the sky was getting dark, the clouds were dense, and the moon was not visible. Su He didn’t plan to disperse the rain anymore, no matter what the treacherous land wanted to do, going against it according to the rules was always right.

“Senior sister, do you think that Young Master Duo should have noticed the mistake in the treacherous land, that the steward has been dismissed? With such a big fuss over recruiting a steward, will he show up?”

A bit envious of Bai Ling’s divination ability now, finding people couldn’t be more convenient.

Su Huanian’s voice was cold: “If he knows that it’s Dragon Turtle who has come in, he will certainly not come.”

Knowing it’s Dragon Turtle and still daring to come, that would mean harboring ill intentions, and he should be killed!

Makes sense! Su He looked outside.

“With such good rain, senior sister, would you like to go out for a walk?” Changyue Mansion was divided in two, the western half had not yet been eroded by the treacherous land, and Su He wanted to take a look.

“Sure!” Su Huanian said softly, drawing her sword and stepping out, then turned to Green Snake: “Do not leave this room.”

This courtyard was opportunistically reclaimed, the treacherous land could not probe, and could not do anything. Moreover, the treacherous land had just been damaged, and it would not cause trouble before it recovered.

After all, the treacherous land is just a twisted collection of rules, with only instinct. It can’t do sneak attacks. If she followed Su He out, they might encounter something, maybe a new rule. Staying in the room is actually safer.

A man and a turtle broke through the rain, the rain automatically parted above Su Huanian’s head, not wetting her clothes.

They walked in silence, until they reached the lakeside.

“Want to come up?” Su He asked.

Su Huanian chuckled lightly, leaped gently, and landed on Su He’s turtle shell, and the rain completely parted, not even wetting Su He.

Actually, Su He liked rainy days, preferring the feeling of being drenched to dryness. But obviously, he couldn’t let Su Huanian get wet.

Swimming across, they headed west.

“The spiritual energy in this water is indeed rich, this place must have been a powerful being’s cave mansion, but now it has been tainted by petty thieves.” Su He sighed.

The spirit of the artifact was almost beaten to death, and the owner did not appear, so it should be ownerless now, right? Moreover, with the invasion of the treacherous land, apart from the spirit of the artifact, the cave mansion had no other spontaneous resistance, and the mountain-protecting formation left by the owner probably lost its effect over time.

Su He looked around, even with the treacherous land’s contamination, Changyue Mansion was still stunningly beautiful, almost like a Jiangnan painting. It’s just that the rain was too heavy, with a bit of coercion, the heavy rain hitting the water surface, stirring up waves, destroying the picturesque beauty, but raising another kind of meaning, quite like the roughness of a Jiangnan woman not subjected to whipping.

Su He gently paddled, Su Huanian sat sideways on the turtle shell, looking up at the sky, the wind messing up her hair.

An old dog was panting and following behind Su He, also swimming towards the west.

Three hundred li of cave mansion, with Su He’s current speed, he could travel back and forth in the blink of an eye. They were getting closer and closer to the western side that the treacherous land had not yet occupied, and behind them, the wind and rain became more terrifying, with thunder and lightning, and houses collapsing with a bang.

The treacherous land was unwilling to let Su He leave, and servant figures appeared, shouting at Su He from afar, but were shouted back by Su He: “It’s raining and the master is taking the mistress to enjoy the scenery on the lake, who dares to be nosy? If you have time to persuade, obediently boil ginger soup and wait for the master to return!”

That servant was stunned in the rain, the pitter-patter of raindrops hitting him, wanting to retort, but saw the turtle carrying the beautiful fairy, breaking through the rain, rushing into the other half of Changyue Mansion.

The old dog followed, and once it reached this half, it immediately became lively, leaping from the water, walking on the lake surface, running excitedly, its joy overflowing.

“It’s a spirit of the artifact, and it was isolated by the treacherous land, unable to return?” Su He asked.

Su Huanian looked at Changyue Mansion, which was as beautiful as two different worlds, the half that the treacherous land had not occupied. She realized it only after coming here, but Dragon Turtle seemed to know in advance.

“The treacherous land is mysterious, who can say what rules it has?” Su Huanian said lightly.

If it wasn’t for Su He dismissing the steward today, causing the treacherous land to be instantly disordered, not to mention the spirit of the artifact, even they would not be able to easily break free from the treacherous land and come to the west side.

“Do you have something to tell me by calling me out?” Dragon Turtle came out and went straight to the west side, there must be something.

“Old dog, block the treacherous land’s detection.” Su He said to the old dog. The old dog cocked its head, puzzled.

Su Huanian said: “Don’t worry, what the treacherous land can control is only within itself.”

Despite saying that, she still cast a token to isolate this place.

Su He took out a “Love-binding” jade pendant from his external space.

The old dog frolicking in the distance immediately turned its head, staring at the jade pendant in astonishment, then froze. Immediately after, it barked and pounced over, jumping on Su He, howling mournfully.

Its voice was full of grievance, like a dog that hadn’t seen its owner for a long time.

It turns out it hadn’t sensed the jade pendant before! This spirit of the artifact is indeed useless.

The jade pendant had been upgraded in quality and was already connected to Su He’s qi. As soon as it was taken out, half of the lake water rippled.

Su He’s mind moved, and the jade pendant split into two, one Yin and one Yang, resembling a pair of fish. The Yang fish stayed by his side, while the Yin fish floated towards Su Huanian.

He started to breathe rapidly.

Su Huanian looked at the Yin fish, stunned for a long while, then suddenly smiled, extending her delicate hand to pluck the jade pendant from mid-air.

The jade pendant did not return, but instead, a red thread wrapped around her wrist, looking like a bracelet.

Su He was overjoyed, not even having time to sing a couple of lines to express his happiness. The old dog, however, became anxious, running back and forth, barking eagerly, tugging at the two of them to run towards the shore.

Once on shore, the old dog slammed into a small hill, merging into it, and in a moment, an altar rose on the hill.

The quaint altar was only half a person tall, with a notch in the center, perfectly fitting the Yin and Yang jade pendants.

The old dog drilled out from the altar, eagerly looking at Su He and Su Huanian.

“Recognizing the master?” Su Huanian said softly.
