Chapter 39 – Act according to its rules

Yo! The attribute of immortality has become commonplace.

Every other day you encounter it, yet I don’t have it myself, how frustrating.

“It’s neither a living being nor a magical treasure,” Su Huanian stated succinctly. At the moment of the steward and the servant’s death, their aura leaked, connecting with the heavens and earth as if they were born from it.

Ironically, while the world remained silent, Su He could sense that it was welcoming him. The steward and servant kept greeting the master and mistress with their words, but Su He couldn’t sense any emotion from them.

“Should we continue killing?” Green Snake asked softly.

Su He and Su Huanian exchanged glances and shook their heads at the same time.

This was a manifestation of the region itself; unless the land was razed, these two would be immortal, and killing them would be futile.

It had a hint of the essence of mountain gods and river lords.

Su He released control of the Flying Boat, and it was as if the region below had captured it, forcibly controlling it would only lead to its disintegration.

The Flying Boat was merely a means of transportation and didn’t possess strong defenses. Probably in the eyes of Qing Cang, no one would dare attack a Flying Boat piloted by Dragon Turtle.

The Flying Boat landed, and the servant excitedly led everyone into the bamboo forest. He tapped thrice on a bamboo, and a Cave Mansion appeared, which was actually a secret realm.

A meticulously carved archway stood with the words “Chang Yue Fu” engraved in small seal script.

Beneath the archway lay an old dog, eyeing everyone with malice. The steward stood by, slightly bowing: “Welcome back, master and mistress.”

He looked up, his gaze falling on Green Snake: “Ah! The master has taken a concubine?”

He seemed somewhat excited, as if a long-held wish had been fulfilled.

He paced back and forth: “This is wonderful, the lady will be overjoyed to know.”

Green Snake was dumbfounded. Me? Become a concubine?

But the old dog under the archway bared its teeth and roared at Su He.

“Hey! Mad dog, even daring to bite the master!” The steward kicked the old dog, sending it tumbling away. The kick wasn’t strong, but the dog screamed as if gravely injured and fled with its tail between its legs.

The steward turned back to the crowd, bowing: “Master, let’s go back quickly, the lady has been anxiously waiting.”

At this moment, the steward seemed as real as a living person, not at all mechanical like before.

Unnoticeably, Su He slipped a Boundary Breaking Pearl into Su Huanian’s hand.

The Boundary Breaking Pearl was a treasure, not just any ordinary space could be a Dust Shield.

Moreover, the danger here should be minimal. Lu Ming and the others, mere Transcend Mortality realm, could inherit legacies here; it made no sense for Su He and Su Huanian to be in danger.

The only concern was the steward and the servant. Two months ago, Su He had flown over this place without the steward stopping him.

Su He took the lead, walking at the front. His outer appearance transformed into a layer of light film covering the turtle shell.

Green Snake walked in the middle, with Su Huanian following behind.

The camel tilted its head and started running with a clip-clop, its hooves moving fast, but its body retreating.

As it retreated, it vanished from sight.

Su He then understood why it was named Da Zhuang; it was too timid.

Passing through the archway, the scenery changed in an instant.

High mountains and flowing rivers, cascading waterfalls, and beautiful lakes. The spiritual energy was rich, comparable to Yun Meng Ze. It was an excellent Cave Mansion.

Su He’s eyes lit up. If this place was unclaimed, it would belong to the Su family!

“Eh?” Green Snake’s voice transmission came from behind: “Something’s not right here!”

Su He remained composed, while Su Huanian gripped the Fairy Sword tightly.

“The door we just passed through was entwined with marriage fate; it should only allow couples to enter, yet we were not restricted.”

And no key was used!

Su He had the key to this Cave Mansion, but this time they entered without using it. If the key was useless, it meant someone had opened the door.

Su He looked towards the steward and the bowing servant.

Upon entering the archway, the feeling that the whole world was welcoming him intensified, as if Su He was the master of this Cave Mansion, but now there was an uninvited guest at home.

In the outer space, the “Love Binding” jade pendant flickered, emitting heat.

When the jade pendant was obtained, the dice rolled a three in quality, clearly not to be treated as an ordinary inheritance Token.

Through the Token, the affection of the Cave Mansion could be felt even more.

A giant panda clumsily ran into the bamboo forest. From afar, it roared at Su He, driving away the intruding enemy.

The steward ran over and kicked the panda on its back. The force wasn’t strong, but the panda screamed and ran away as if fleeing.

Such dog-like behavior.

“The master has been away for too long; the Hundreds of Beasts at home no longer recognize the master!” The steward’s tone carried a hint of resentment.

Was he following a script?

“Today’s weather is perfect; the lady is sunbathing at Wang Lu Mountain. Master, let’s hurry, the lady has been waiting for a long time,” the steward said with urgency.

Su He was silent for a moment.

She’s been waiting for so long; let her wait a bit longer! I’m not in a hurry.

Being so passive, doing whatever you’re told!

Su He glanced up, and in an instant, dark clouds gathered, and heavy rain poured down. The steward, who was hurrying along, paused.

But in the blink of an eye, he hurried even faster, looking back at Su He: “Master, hurry! The rain is heavy today; you should rest in the room. When the sun comes out tomorrow, you’ll have to greet the lady.”

His words flowed smoothly, as if he hadn’t just mentioned the sunny weather.

An NPC, indeed!

While speaking, the steward somehow produced a paper umbrella, pale as death, and held it over his head, hurrying Su He into a courtyard.

Creak… Yah!

The door, rusted from disuse, protested as it was pushed open.

To accommodate him, the door must have been as large as a wall, for Su He’s ten-meter stature could enter. This was a wall turned into a door!

After escorting Su He into the courtyard, the steward did not approach further. Through the door and windows, holding the pale paper umbrella, he looked at Su He, bowing as a reminder: “Master, after the long journey, the servants will bring food; you must eat!”

He settled things and bowed slightly before retreating.

The room fell silent for a moment.

“What is this? What is he doing?” Su He asked after a while.

He could tell that the steward, the servant, even the old dog and the giant panda, were not real beings but operated according to some rules.

But beyond that, he couldn’t understand; his time in cultivation was too short, his experience too lacking.

Su Huanian pondered for a moment: “There are rumors of special regions with unique rules. Whether it’s a mountain village or a school, they are indelible. If one enters by mistake, one must act according to its rules, or face fatal consequences. Cultivators and mortals are no different within it.”

Bizarre?

That was the only word that came to Su He’s mind, then he shook his head: “I don’t believe it!”

Special rules might exist, but if there’s no difference between cultivators and mortals, then what’s the point of cultivation? Isn’t understanding the rules meant to break them?

As they were talking, a knock came from outside.

A maid entered quietly, carrying a meal box.

Upon opening the meal box, eight dishes were laid out one by one, and she bowed: “Master and mistress, your meal is ready.”

As she spoke, a bolt of lightning flashed outside, illuminating the entire world, and the maid had no shadow. Half of her face was mutilated, and the table was covered with rotten meat and maggots.

“Master and mistress, please enjoy your meal!” The maid opened her mangled mouth.

Green Snake held her breath, Su Huanian frowned slightly, and then they saw Su He open his mouth wide and gulp down the maid in one bite.

Divine Ability, Soul Sacrifice!

“What are you doing?” Green Snake was astonished.

Su He replied as if it were obvious: “Didn’t the steward just say? When the servants bring food, you must eat it.”

Hmm, isn’t this acting against the rules?
