Chapter 226 – Storm Queen Youval, legendary ancient dragon

“It’s a bit of an unexpected gain.”

After accepting the atonement gold offered by the half-blood Blue Dragon as an apology, Saga nodded in satisfaction. Though it wasn’t a large sum, every little bit adds up, and dragonkind would never refuse even a single coin’s increase in wealth.

He looked at the half-blood Blue Dragon, whose face was twisted in pain from the failed robbery and the loss of its treasure.

With a slight squint in his eyes, Saga said, “This is just a small lesson.” His voice carried a hint of danger as the Golden Dragon spoke calmly, “Be thankful for my mercy. You know I could have killed you, snapped your neck right there.”

The half-blood Blue Dragon shuddered, the near-death sensation of being choked by the Golden Dragon flooding back.

“I understand, thank you for your mercy.”

The once arrogant half-blood Blue Dragon, under Saga’s calm gaze, involuntarily shrank its neck and spoke in a low voice.

Dragon fights, under the constraints of the Dragon God, follow a principle of non-killing. Unless there’s deep hatred, they may beat, enslave, or humiliate each other, but killing one’s own kind could incur the deities’ disdain.

But there’s a caveat: the fight must be mutual.

If one dragon provokes another without cause and ends up killed, it’s entirely their own fault.

Saga enjoyed the thrill of battle, but with his half-Golden Dragon bloodline, his nature wasn’t bloodthirsty.

Therefore, he allowed the half-blood Blue Dragon to redeem its life with treasure.

However, there was another reason.

During the fight with the half-blood Blue Dragon, Saga sensed an unknown presence watching silently.

He remembered Glorithia mentioning that the leader of the Uval Blue Dragon clan was a legendary ancient dragon nearly a thousand years old.

It was normal for the commotion caused by Saga and the half-blood Blue Dragon to attract the attention of the legendary ancient dragon, as this was the Uval clan’s territory.

Legendary dragons are not to be compared with the likes of the half-baked Shark King who suddenly breaks through in battle.

Some respect was due.

After admonishing the half-blood Blue Dragon, Saga spread his wings, preparing to leave amidst the gusts of wind he stirred up.

“The mighty King of the Near Seas, your deeds are widely known along the coast. It’s our honor to witness your power,” said two pure-blood Blue Dragons respectfully.

After a pause, as if receiving some instruction, the pure-blood Blue Dragons lowered their heads and said, “Our clan leader, the Storm Queen Uval, invites you to be our guest.”

The legendary ancient Blue Dragon, Storm Queen Uval, was the leader and creator of the clan, named after her.

Her clan’s Blue Dragons were notorious along the coastal regions, robbing at will and making many enemies, yet they remained unexterminated largely due to the Storm Queen’s presence.

The Storm Queen’s reputation along the coast was comparable to Saga’s in the Near Seas.

Hearing the pure-blood Blue Dragons’ words, Saga’s gaze flickered as he said, “I would be pleased to meet the legendary Storm Queen.”

This legendary dragon likely bore him no ill will.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t bother with invitations and would have attacked directly. Chromatic Dragons rarely beat around the bush; if they’re hostile, they act.

And if one were to choose the most communicative and orderly among the Chromatic Dragons, it would undoubtedly be the Blue Dragons.

During his time in Deep Sea Dragon City, Saga had seen many legendary Metal Dragons.

However, there were no Chromatic Dragons in Deep Sea Dragon City.

The only legendary Evil Dragon he had encountered up close was the Crimson Flame Empress, his Red Dragoness mother.

Soon after, led by several enthusiastic Blue Dragons, Saga arrived at the heartland of the Blue Dragon clan.

It was a vast strait.

Many dragon nests were visibly hollowed out on both sides of the strait, with numerous Blue Dragons, as well as a few Green, Red, Black, and White Dragons, nesting, taking flight between the straits, or swimming in the sea.

Most coastal Blue Dragon clans chose straits as their habitats.

There were many Azure Dragon Straits.

The Uval Blue Dragon clan was not small, making it a significant gathering place for dragonkind.

As for the presence of other Chromatic Dragons like Green, Red, Black, and White within the Blue Dragon clan, Saga was not surprised.

Blue Dragons, known for their individualistic nature among the Chromatic Dragons, not only liked to live in groups but also collected abandoned Chromatic Dragon eggs or took in Hatchling Dragons who had been driven away by their dragon mothers and were in dire straits.

For Chromatic Hatchling Dragons unable to adapt to life alone, seeking refuge with a Blue Dragon clan was a good choice.

At the same time, the arrival of the distinctive Golden Dragon immediately drew the attention of many Blue Dragons and a few other Chromatic Dragons.

Many dragons focused their gaze on Saga.

“Why is a Golden Dragon brought to our Blue Dragon Bay? No, it seems different.”

“This golden diamond-like scale armor, and the three pairs of dragon horns, somehow feel familiar. Why is that?”

“! It’s the King of the Near Seas! Rising with the force of thunder, swiftly conquering the Near Seas nations, ruling the dragons of the Near Seas.”

“The King of the Near Seas has come to the Blue Dragon Bay; it seems he’s heading to the leader’s cave.”

Many Blue Dragons cast curious and awe-filled glances at Saga.

Saga was used to being the center of attention and remained composed as he looked ahead.

In the middle of the strait, where the two shores met, was the largest dragon nest, emitting a deep and powerful Dragon Might. The cliff walls were covered with lightning patterns, as if affected by the dragon’s aura, making the air crackle with a scorching sensation as arcs of electricity flickered intermittently.

Legendary dragons’ domains are often influenced by their attributes.

For example, Saga wasn’t yet legendary, but his environment would change unconsciously during his slumber, with countless treasures floating around him, orbiting like stars in his guard.

“This is the Storm Queen’s dragon nest; the Queen is waiting inside for you,” said the Blue Dragon who led Saga, with no intention of entering.

Saga nodded slightly and calmly flew into the lightning-patterned dragon nest.

As the Golden Dragon entered the nest, many Blue Dragons surrounded the three who had brought Saga, inquiring curiously.

“How did you encounter the King of the Near Seas?”

“Is he as formidable as the rumors say?”

The pure-blood Blue Dragon responded to their kin’s questions with an astonished tone, “Yes, you don’t know, Calvo tried to rob the King of the Near Seas, but was severely injured by a single blow. The King of the Near Seas didn’t even consider Calvo, who is of the same rank, worth his attention.”

Many eyes turned to the injured half-blood Blue Dragon.

“What are you looking at? If you’re so capable, go challenge the King of the Near Seas.”

“I bet you don’t have the guts!”

The half-blood Blue Dragon puffed out its chest, not ashamed of its defeat but rather arrogantly said.

“Courage? It was you who groveled and thanked the King of the Near Seas for his mercy,” the pure-blood Blue Dragon retorted in a whisper.

“What are you talking about?”

With so many of its kin present, the half-blood Blue Dragon couldn’t save face and, enraged, chased after the truth-telling pure-blood Blue Dragon, causing chaos in the scene.

At the same time, after passing through a long, bright corridor filled with electric light, the view opened up.

The spacious nest was adorned with bright blue crystals on the dome, emitting a soft blue glow that illuminated the entire nest. In the center of the nest was a pool shimmering with thunder and lightning, with a constant roar of fierce storms.

“King of the Near Seas, you’ve arrived.”

A deep voice resounded, as if a storm was entering one’s ears.

The pool surged, and a huge Blue Dragon head emerged, followed by the reveal of its massive body. At thirty-five meters from head to tail, its mere size exuded an immense pressure. Compared to the various shades of blue on adult Blue Dragons, she was a deep blue color, reminiscent of the vast, profound ocean, and her deep blue eyes held storms and lightning.

This was the legendary ancient dragon, Storm Queen Uval.

To the young dragon, she was beautiful, majestic, and powerful.

“Calvo is naturally arrogant and reckless. I thank you for teaching it a lesson, making it realize there are dragons beyond dragons,” the Storm Queen said, looking down at the Golden Dragon.

“It’s a trivial matter; no thanks are needed,” Saga replied, neither humble nor arrogant, in front of the legendary ancient dragon.

After a pause, Saga said to the Storm Queen, “Storm Queen, you didn’t invite me here just for a trivial thanks, did you?”

The massive ancient dragon smiled slightly.

“Of course not.”

Her gaze carefully scrutinized Saga as the Storm Queen quietly said, “I smell Renata’s scent on you.”

“You are Renata’s offspring, aren’t you?”

At her words, Saga was slightly taken aback, then nodded.

The Storm Queen showed a look of surprise and said, “Renata has only recently given birth to offspring. If I remember correctly, you should only be twenty-one years old, still a young dragon.”

The ancient dragon shook its head, its tone filled with emotion, “Renata has truly given birth to a fine offspring. To have achieved such renown as a young dragon is unheard of in my nearly thousand years of life. Such fame is usually reserved for legendary dragons, and even I find it hard to believe.”

The Storm Queen shook her head as if talking to herself, “The young dragons of today are truly remarkable. I thought Renata, who became legendary in her prime, was exceptional enough, but her offspring surpasses her.”

Coming back to her senses, the Storm Queen gazed at Saga and exclaimed, “I have a feeling that you will achieve things beyond my imagination in the future.”

Saga’s tail curled slightly, and he humbly said, “You flatter me, Queen. I haven’t even reached legendary status yet.”

The Storm Queen laughed heartily, “Indeed, you’re not legendary, but you don’t have a heart of reverence for a legendary ancient dragon like me, do you?”

The Storm Queen was right.

Having already defeated two legendary creatures, Saga found it hard to revere the legendary.

After all, he was already on par with the legendary.

“Your modesty and humility are like a golden fig leaf,” the Storm Queen teased.

Saga: …

What an absurd comparison?

“You seem very familiar with my mother,” he changed the subject and said to the Storm Queen.

From the Storm Queen’s tone, Saga felt she must have had a relationship with the Red Dragoness.

“Yes,” the Storm Queen nodded naturally, “Renata is young, strong, beautiful, and dazzling in my eyes.”

“When I was with her, I felt the fiery energy of youth, so I passionately invited her to be my mate, and she agreed.”

Ah?

At these words, Saga’s eyes widened, and he almost couldn’t help but be dumbfounded.

The Red Dragoness had such a romantic past?

With the same-sex ancient dragon before him?

Hmm. Considering that the Golden Dragonfather was a few hundred years older than the Red Dragoness, and the Storm Queen was likely even older, the Red Dragoness seemed to attract the affection of older dragons.

Saga thought to himself.

At the same time, with a hint of regret in her voice, the Storm Queen shook her head, “Unfortunately, she preferred a solitary life, and we eventually went our separate ways. I often reminisce about that time.”

Looking at the young dragon.

Reflected in her vision was the golden radiance of the other party, and the Storm Queen did not hide her affection, saying earnestly to Saga:

“If you wish, you can consider me your dragon mother as well.”

“And I will treat you as my offspring, ready to handle any troubles that beset you.”

Hearing her earnest words, Saga shook his head and said seriously, “Thank you for your kindness, Queen, but I have only one mother and do not intend to acknowledge another dragon mother.”

The Storm Queen before him was profound and powerful, certainly a strong figure among the legendary.

But having just met, Saga couldn’t possibly acknowledge her as a mother, even if she had a past with the Red Dragoness.

The Storm Queen laughed heartily, her dragon chant thunderous.

“I appreciate your frankness.”

“Even if you refuse to acknowledge me as a mother, I will still treat you as my offspring.”

After a pause, the Storm Queen smiled and said, “If you encounter any trouble in the future, just let me know. I will shelter you under my wings and protect you from the storm.”

Compared to other Chromatic Dragons, Blue Dragons are the most considerate of their offspring.

During the conversation, the Storm Queen took out a mirror-like blue scale, magically transformed, and sent it to Saga amidst a cluster of electric light.

Saga did not refuse this time and took the Storm Queen’s scale, accepting her goodwill.

Next, the Storm Queen looked serious, her gaze narrowed, and she asked Saga, “Something unusual has happened to your mother, hasn’t it?”

The events that occurred to the Red Dragoness in the Whirlpool Sea were also widely spread, such as her overwhelming the Rosen Kingdom, being annihilated by the Mechanar Empire’s mechanical divine fist, and even summoning the mysterious Dragon God, earning her the title of Hell Queen.

Living in the coastal region, the Storm Queen had naturally heard of these events.

“I went to Thorn Isle a while ago, but I didn’t see your mother. Where has she gone?”

Under the Storm Queen’s gaze, Saga thought for a moment and said, “My mother has gone to a very distant world, the specifics of which I’m not clear about.”

“Is that so,” the Storm Queen lowered her gaze, looking at the young dragon with the stature of an adult, and said, “You’re leaving the Near Seas to go to Yar Continent?”

Saga nodded.

“I’ve spent enough time at sea, and the Near Seas have stabilized under my rule. I want to travel the continent, to witness the rulers of this world’s empires.”

The Storm Queen’s wings fluttered slightly, and the surrounding electric arcs flickered and vanished.

“It’s normal to have such thoughts.”

“However, I must warn you, Yar Continent is not comparable to the Near Seas. There are countless formidable beings lurking in the shadows. I will offer you protection, but you still need to be careful and not let your guard down.”

Saga’s gaze flickered as he looked at the massive, profound ancient dragon and asked, “Queen, if I may be so bold, how far have you progressed in the legendary ranks?”

“Legendary Sixth Tier,” the Storm Queen said frankly, “This may be my limit. If I cannot break through the life and death threshold to become an Ancient Dragon, I will stop here.”

Ancient Dragon is a stage of age, not necessarily indicative of great strength.

For example, many ancient White Dragons may not even have reached legendary status.

Reaching Legendary Sixth Tier in the ancient dragon stage, the Storm Queen was not an ordinary Blue Dragon but belonged to a class of exceptional talent. Normally, common Red or Blue Dragons would only be around Legendary Third Tier at the ancient dragon stage.

“Legendary Sixth Tier. What level does that place you on Yar Continent?”

The Storm Queen calmly said, “Upper tier, but still far from the top. The major empires of Yar Continent all have demi-god figures to stabilize the nation, and there are countless legendary powerhouses. For example, the high-tier legends in the Skyrealm Empire alone number over a thousand, and that’s just my rough estimate.”

Over a thousand?

Saga’s eyelids twitched.

High-tier legends would have to be at least Legendary Seventh Tier to be considered high-tier.

Saga knew empires were powerful, especially the Skyrealm, Mechanar, and Empire of All Gods, but he hadn’t expected them to be so formidable.

“Few high-tier legends are active in public, but I’m well aware of the foundations of these empires. None should be underestimated.”

The Storm Queen chuckled and said, “Of course, you don’t need to be too anxious.”

“Yar Continent is vast enough. With those numbers spread out, the chance of encountering a high-tier legend is extremely low. More often, you’ll meet ordinary legends and countless beings below legendary status.”

“With your strength, as long as you’re not too unlucky, you should be able to make your mark.”

Luck?

Saga thought of his trouble-attracting nature and felt his luck probably wouldn’t be great.

Time quietly passed.

Through the Storm Queen, Saga learned more about Yar Continent. His Dragon Heritage also contained many related records, but times change, and some of those records were no longer applicable to the current situation. The information provided by the Storm Queen was very useful to Saga.

In the Azure Dragon Strait, Saga stayed for three days.

In the early morning, after a banquet shared with many Blue Dragons, Saga bid farewell to the Storm Queen.

“Queen, I’m leaving.”

“Go, let your fame resound throughout Yar Continent as well.”

The Storm Queen did not hold Saga back.

The young dragon left the Azure Dragon Strait, soaring through the sky, continuing his continental journey.
