Chapter 44 – Repeatedly refused

No matter what Su Qianyi said, Xie Shu maintained an indifferent expression, showing no interest in engaging with her or having any contact. He simply exuded an air of nonchalance.

Her references to past events seemed to have little effect, and if anything, only served to irritate Xie Shu to some extent.

He continued to look down at his phone, ignoring Su Qianyi.

After being disregarded for about a minute, Su Qianyi couldn't help but speak up again, "Xie Shu, who were you with today during the day?"

Xie Shu: "……"

Why is she still here?

Xie Shu didn't want to answer, preferring to feign deafness, but Su Qianyi's questions kept coming one after another.

"Did you go out to play with someone? Was it a girl from our college? Was it just the two of you, or were there others?"

"That's my business, I don't need to report to you, do I?" Xie Shu frowned, his voice faint and distant.

Su Qianyi was taken aback, her subsequent questions stuck in her throat.

Indeed, what was her status now?

It seemed she had no right to interfere in his affairs.

Despite her concern, she had no choice but to put the matter aside for the time being.

"I haven't had dinner yet, let's go eat together over there? My treat," Su Qianyi changed the subject.

"I'm not free."

Having been rejected so many times, Su Qianyi had expected this response.

She didn't wallow in sadness but continued, "What would you like to eat?"

"???"Hadn't he already refused?

Was there a problem with her comprehension?

Just as he was about to repeat his previous response, he heard Su Qianyi say, "I'll go buy it for you."

Xie Shu looked at Su Qianyi, puzzled by her behavior.

He had clearly refused.

Everyone spoke the same language; how could she not understand?

Moreover, her current demeanor gave him an odd impression.

He couldn't shake the feeling that she was deliberately trying to please him.

It was somewhat reminiscent of how he used to be…

This prompted Xie Shu to take a closer look at Su Qianyi. Even in a simple dress, she exuded a sense of elegance.

Xie Shu had always known she was beautiful.

Skin like creamy jade, eyebrows like mist, eyes like shimmering pools, as lovely as the peaches of spring, as pure as the chrysanthemums of autumn.

She still had the aura of the goddess from days past, the kind that could make countless people fall for her.

But why did her behavior just now seem a bit like… fawning?

Uh, this… Xie Shu thought he might be overthinking it. How could a campus goddess act like that?

He averted his gaze, refusing to look at her any longer, and once again rejected her.

"No need." He was going to have dinner with Ruan Nianxi soon; he didn't need her help buying anything.

"How about we go to the amusement park tomorrow?"

"No."

"Then around the school? We can hang out nearby."

"No."

"Even on campus is fine!"

"No."

"Why not?"

No meant no; why all the questions?

He wasn't obligated to accompany her, was he?

Growing slightly impatient with Su Qianyi's persistence, Xie Shu internally complained before he could respond calmly. However, Su Qianyi spoke up again:

"Do you really have to be like this?" This time, Su Qianyi's voice was thick with nasal tones.

Sensing something off in Su Qianyi's tone, Xie Shu looked at her again.

As he turned, he met Su Qianyi's tearful eyes.

Xie Shu: "???"

Seeing Su Qianyi on the verge of tears, Xie Shu was shocked.

Before he could speak, she stepped forward, closing the distance between them.

Due to the height difference, Su Qianyi had to look up at Xie Shu.

With the gap closed, Xie Shu could clearly see the expression on Su Qianyi's face.

Pitiful and heart-wrenching.

However, seeing her like this, Xie Shu was mostly shocked.

When had he ever seen her look so sad before?

When he used to follow her around, even if she was in a bad mood or encountered something unpleasant, she never showed such a pitiful expression.

And now, why was she looking at him so pitifully?

He hadn't mistreated her.

She better not try to pin the blame on him; he hadn't done anything.

Coming back to his senses, Xie Shu tried to distance himself from her.

He wanted to step back, but Su Qianyi had already grabbed his arm.

With one hand holding his phone, Xie Shu couldn't break free immediately, so he just stood there.

"Su…"

"Do you really have to treat me this way?" Su Qianyi spoke first, her voice quivering with sobs.

"???"

"Xie Shu, we've known each other for so many years. When have we ever had a conflict? When have we ever been like this these past few days? What's wrong with you? I haven't done anything to you, so why are you being so cold?"

Su Qianyi complained with a trembling voice, filled with grievance.

Tears welled in her beautiful eyes, some already trailing down her cheeks.

There were many people in the back street, and numerous food stalls lined the roadside, with crowds queuing up to buy snacks.

That was the scene around Xie Shu.

Thus, many onlookers had heard and seen the exchange between him and Su Qianyi.

Everyone had been watching them, and passersby had stopped to join the spectacle.

Some who didn't know the details thought Su Qianyi was crying because Xie Shu was a heartless playboy, and they looked at him with strange expressions.

Xie Shu: "……"

What on earth was she doing?

Su Qianyi continued to gaze directly at Xie Shu.

"Did I do something wrong? Or did I upset you? Just tell me, and I'll change, okay? Please don't ignore me."

She had waited for his message all day, he hadn't replied, and he had even blocked her number…

She could endure all that.

But now! She had come to him in person, taken the initiative. She wanted to have dinner with him, and if that wasn't possible, she was willing to buy it just for him. She had even invited him to go out, but he had refused!

Moreover, his tone when speaking to her was so distant, as if he wanted to draw a clear line between them.

She really couldn't understand what she had done to make him angry.

Without any warning, he had suddenly become like this.

Even if she had inadvertently angered him, couldn't he just tell her directly instead of tormenting her like this?
