Chapter 47 – Flag bearer

Lin Qiye stood still upon hearing these words.

Indeed, when he used his perception to sense the floors earlier, he also discovered that most of the girls were infected by the monsters. After Li Yifei mentioned it, he realized that something was not right.

“Could it be that the mythical creature appeared from the girls’ dormitory?” Lin Qiye muttered to himself.

He opened his earpiece and lowered his voice, saying, “Sister Hong Ying, where are you guys?”

“We just came out of the office building. What’s wrong?”

Lin Qiye voiced his speculation, and Sister Hong Ying immediately nodded. “Alright, while you all go for the flag-raising ceremony, we’ll go to the girls’ dormitory.”

“Okay.”

As the march played, Lin Qiye’s class also walked out of the corridor and slowly moved towards the flag-raising platform.

The location where the flag-raising ceremony was held was a vacant area in front of the teaching building. It wasn’t very big, and students from all three grades of the high school were squeezed together with little space between them.

“Follow behind! Hurry up!”

“Don’t push me.”

“Hey, walk faster!”

“How fast can I go? The people in front of me are all stuck there. What can I do?”

“Hmm? Where are the people in front of me?”

“Who is in front of you?”

“Lin Qiye, he went somewhere?”

“I don’t know, he was just here.”

“Huh? Li Yifei is also missing!”

Just as a few classmates were puzzled, Lin Qiye and Li Yifei had already slipped out of the queue and swiftly shuttled through the crowd.

Lin Qiye’s spiritual perception range was only twenty meters. In order to cover more than two thousand students in the school, he had to keep moving constantly.

“Lin Qiye, Lin Qiye! Have you finished investigating? The music has stopped, and the flag-raising is about to begin!” Li Yifei struggled to push aside the surrounding classmates and said to Lin Qiye in front of him.

“No, there’s still half left.”

“What should we do then? If everyone stands in formation and we’re still searching, we’ll be discovered!”

At this moment, the continuously playing march became softer and softer, and the two students moving through the crowd became more and more conspicuous. Many people were pointing and whispering about them.

Lin Qiye furrowed his brows slightly. Li Yifei was right. If they continued to shuttle through the crowd after everyone stood in formation, they would undoubtedly attract attention. If they forcefully continued their search, they might even be intercepted by the teachers.

But if they gave up now, wanting to fully investigate all the students and teachers in the entire school would have to wait until after school when they could block the exits.

It would take too long, and there were too many variables. They couldn’t afford to wait.

Lin Qiye’s brain quickly worked, and suddenly, he caught sight of the flag bearers in the distance, his eyes brightening.

He changed direction, quickly pushed through the crowd, and arrived in front of the flag bearers.

“Hello, classmate.” Lin Qiye walked up to the student at the front and politely greeted him.

The flag bearer was taken aback. “Hello…”

“You’re off duty.”

“…What are you talking about?”

“The school leaders just issued an emergency notice. They want outstanding student representatives to raise the flag and give a speech after the flag-raising ceremony, so they need to temporarily replace the flag bearers.” Lin Qiye said seriously, reaching out and grabbing the flagpole from the student’s hand.

“But, this…”

“I am Li Yifei, the outstanding student representative from the second year. Please give me your flag. If you have any questions, you can find the leaders after the flag-raising ceremony.”

Lin Qiye expressionlessly snatched the flagpole from him and stood in his original position with a solemn expression.

Li Yifei:…

The student scratched his head in confusion. After hesitating for a while, he chose to return to his own class’s formation.

“Lin Qiye, what are you doing?” Li Yifei couldn’t help but ask, “By doing this, you’ll be punished… No, I’ll be punished too!”

“I used your name to deceive and take away the flag bearer’s flag. It has nothing to do with you,” Lin Qiye said calmly. “Besides, I am no longer a student. I don’t need to abide by the school’s rules… I am the Night Watchman.”

The solemn music began to play, and the students, teachers, and leaders on the field quieted down. Their gazes fell on the flag in the flag bearer’s hand, waiting for it to be raised.

Following the rhythm of the music, Lin Qiye held up the flag and marched forward with standard steps towards the front.

“Hey, look at that flag bearer. Doesn’t he look familiar?”

“Yeah, he’s quite handsome and looks a bit like Lin Qiye.”

“…Are you sure it’s just a bit? I feel like it’s him.”

“It seems like it!”

“…”

Most people didn’t recognize Lin Qiye, but his classmates quickly recognized him and started whispering among themselves.

The leaders on the stage didn’t notice the change of flag bearers at all. They smiled and focused their attention on the handsome young man. After all, such trivial matters had nothing to do with them. With so many students in the school, how would they know who was raising the flag today?

However, the teacher in charge of the flag-raising ceremony saw Lin Qiye and his face suddenly changed.

For some reason, he had a foreboding feeling…

Under the gaze of everyone, Lin Qiye walked proudly and completed the path of raising the flag. Just as he was about to step onto the flag-raising platform…

He made a sharp right-angle turn!

He headed towards the other right angle of the student formation, resolutely stepping forward!

The leaders who were smiling and preparing to welcome the flag were dumbfounded.

Their smiles froze on their faces as they stared blankly at Lin Qiye, who completely ignored them. It took them several seconds to react.

They all turned their heads to look at the teacher in charge of the flag-raising ceremony, their eyes filled with questions! The teacher in charge of the flag-raising ceremony broke out in a cold sweat on the spot.

At the same time, the students also noticed this. They stared in astonishment as Lin Qiye sauntered past them, and the whispering among them suddenly grew louder.

“What the hell? Why isn’t he going on stage?”

“I don’t know, is this his first time raising the flag? He seems unfamiliar.”

“Interesting, he’s completely messing this up!”

“Look at the expressions of the leaders on the stage… Hahaha, I’m dying of laughter.”

“What on earth is Lin Qiye doing?”

“…”

Just then, the voice of the teacher in charge of the flag-raising ceremony rang out loudly:

“Quiet! Everyone, quiet! The student holding the flag, you’re going the wrong way!”

Lin Qiye seemed not to hear, showing no intention of turning back, and even quickened his pace!

His gaze was sharp, sweeping over the faces of all the students in front of him.

In their eyes, there was surprise, confusion, ridicule, and schadenfreude…

But Lin Qiye’s eyes were always like a deep pool, unfathomably deep.

In Lin Qiye’s eyes, they were a flock of sheep about to be thrown to the wolves, in imminent danger but unaware. Among the more than two thousand teachers and students present, only Lin Qiye and Li Yifei… were awake.

Everyone is drunk and I alone am sober, perhaps this is the case.

“Come back! Come back quickly! Which class are you from?!” The teacher in charge on the stage roared!

Finally, Lin Qiye, who had finished scanning all the students, pretended to be startled and hurriedly turned back. He walked along the flag-raising platform to the flagpole, quickly tying the flag to the pole.

The teacher in charge stared at Lin Qiye, trembling with anger. He seemed to want to question something, but now was not the right occasion.

Lin Qiye simply ignored his existence. At this moment, he had no mind to care about the teacher’s feelings.

As the music changed and the national anthem was sung in unison, the flag slowly rose…

But under the flagpole, a drop of cold sweat slid down Lin Qiye’s cheek.

He stared blankly at the leaders around him, then looked down at the sea of students below. His heart seemed to have fallen into an abyss!

“Captain…

You’d better be prepared…”

He muttered to himself.
